Michigan State fans recently chanted "USA" and waived an American flag at a Michigan player who is Canadian. While I think it's funny to make fun of Canadians, I'd much rather prefer we make fun of players for being dumb enough to voluntarily go to Michigan.
When Texas had a team comprised of Joseph, Thompson, Balbay, and Wangmene aggy was chanting "USA, USA" at them. Of course that same team beat aggy by 20+ points 3 times that season.
I've seen student sections hold up naked pics of a players gf after she did playboy. I've heard students chanting "DUI DUI" when a player that had just gotten a DUI was shooting freethrows. The pussification of America has already gotten out of control and now we are pussifying our immigrants. If they aren't proud to be here then they should atleast get thicker skin cuz Americans are mean and hurtful, especially high school students.
Todd Marinovich had that happen to him in high school. He was shooting free throws and the fans chanted, "Marijuanavich! Marijuanavich!"
RIP Lil Julio
Doesn't matter, its not racist.
I wonder if his principal went on a suspension rampage and made those mean bullies stop trying to hurt his poor feelings. I doubt it.
No me gusta, para nada.
So, its in America, we should be able to chant USA whenever we want.
What is the difference in doing this and doing this at an USA vs. Mexico match in say, San Francisco?
Same principle. We are better than you.
No, that's why you are up in arms and defending the principal. When you travel for sporting events you can be certain that the home crowd is going to try to mock the visiting team, get in their player's heads, and make an environment that will make visiting fans not want to come back. Looks like it worked and the principal went all politically correct to stop it.
Why don't these high school students have the same free speech rights?
It's America bro. We all have the same rights to free speech.
Just to prove I'm from a place with a shvt ton of illegals. The LA Times did a story on it.
I obviously linked the wrong thing. Good thing it wasn't porn.
You agree with the principal's opinion as if all the white kids were yelling at the Spanish kids but It looks like to me that Hispanics are on both sides and other Hispanics are chanting USA. If it was so racially charged then how do you explain so many Hispanics doing the chant? That doesnt appear to be the case. It couldn't have been too bad, hence the responses of people saying the principal overreacted.
Race war IMO
Only adults have Freedom of Speech? That's news to me. At what age does that kick in?
You're absolutely right. First Amendment rights are reduced (but not eliminated) for many groups: public school students, the incarcerated, government employees, etc.
So why do you think that the students were wearing American bandannas and chanting USA?
First our guns, now our free speech. Stupid F-ing liberals
They are reduced in public schools.
If this principal was around my student section at basketball games he would have curled up in the fetal position and started sucking his thumb. The things we chanted should never be heard by human ears.
Weak on his part. This is the USA. Chanting USA is now a bad thing?
Oh yea... we are in a PC era where we can't hurt anyone's feelings. I didnt consider California as a part of this country before this. This just confirms my feelings on that.
While I agree that chanting USA is, in itself, not offensive... it can be in a certain context. If you showed up to a foreigner's deportation hearing and did so, it's obviously a put-down. Whether this HS sports incident is also such a context... well, people can differ on that...
Obviously to offend, but are you saying they don't have the right?
Re read my posts. I think it should be allowed but they are risking getting in trouble considering it's a school event.
