His 40 yd dash would probably be 4.1 or less how is that not special? May not be special if you think in terms of the great starters in the sport but its blazing when you consider he accelerates faster than every person in the NFL and continues to accelerate for a longer period of time than world class sprinters...coming from a track guy look at his first world record. The lines on the track are marks for the Mens and womens hurdles the 4th hurdle for women is at about at the 39 meter(roughly 42yds) mark from the 100m st line. Bolt is ahead at this point and pulling away...against some of the best starters in the world(Asafa Powell may be the best ever). Now to show you Im not saying he runs a 4.1 out of my ass I'll explain: womens hurdle mark is roughly 39meters or 42 yds at this point they the field is around 3.8sec the next line on the track is the Mens 4th hurdle line which is 41metres I think(maybe further) at this point they are around 4.3sec... now in between that time is a justifiable guess of what Bolt would run in a 40.... and its my opinion he could run 3.9 or better but I won't be a track homer....
Walking up these hills you have no choice but to be fast!
He would not run a 4.1. Also there is o evidence that he has any football playing ability to speak of.

Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken
I played Cricket as a kid too... but catching a football is different than catching any other ball due to the shape... I came to America and didn't do to well as a receiver cause I couldn't catch the ball. I was good at knocking it down though so I play FS in high school.
Wrong... due you seriously think Chris Johnson takes off as fast as Bolt? LOL funny football lover. To run a 9.6 100METER DASH and you think he is slower taking off than a football guy? And like I said look at the markings on the track they tell you roughly what distance they are at... 39meters is 41yds... at 3.8sec they have already passed this mark... and I gave him a conservative 4.1.
Edit:Also look at the long line that they are about to cross at 4.3sec that is the male hurdle line which is 41.14meters(just looked it up) an that is 44.99yds(rd to 45) and that is a whole 5 more yards he has ran in 4.3seconds.

I have it paused at the 25 second mark. Bolt is 2 yards away from that first horizontal line, and the time on the clock is showing 4.2
I would think that one would start off differently running 100 meters than 40 yds especially when that final one third is the most important in the 100. Just a thought. Can't compare it equally IYAM. I have seen calculations that show he would convert to a 4.1 some even say a sub 4.
Guy has been clocked at 27 MPH. I don't care how you slice that. It is blazing fast.
I have no doubt that his top end speed is faster than any player in the NFL. I also have no doubt that he has absolutely no ability to play the game of football.
That mark is the mens hurdle line. Which like I said is 45yds... the womens marks are the hashed marks...if you go back to 24second mark you can make them out... but that is 39meters which at 25seconds where you have it puased at they have already passed this mark... the mens line is the bold long line that you can make out easier(thats why I said it because its easier to make the comparison...) but as you stated yourself 2yds away from the 45yd mark the time is at 4.2....
Edit: stop the clock at 24seconds the clock is at 3.8 where I have it paused and they are just now getting ready to cross over this line. At 4.2 where you have it pause Bolt takes 1 more step and is past the mens lines which is 45yds...
So even if you alot time for that 1 revolution(again being conservative) and say 4.4-4.5 to run a 45yd dash and looking at the line for the women which is not as easy to judge but is crossed between 3.8-3.9 on the clock... then you can easily determine that a 4.1 would be a conservative guess about his 40 time... taking into account the line we are using is past the 4oyd mark in both cases and looking at his time at both stages. Its fair to assume that even something below 4.2 was ran... and at 3.9 seconds he is actually almost 2 yds past 40yds so a 4.1 as a guess is easily preventing overestimation while you can see for yourself its probably closer to 4.0 or less.
Are you Jamaican, or from another Island?
I hear you about catching. Most Jamaicans don't really do it well, due to the fact most grow up playing Futbol.
Most play backyard cricket but give it up by the time they get to HS
This is a fun conversation for message board geeks like us, but truthfully, he would be INSANE to even contemplate trying American Football.
Let's see, I can try a sport that I have never played, and even if I am successful I will have to go over the middle and get hit by Troy Polamalu or Rodney Harrison, OR I can make my 20 Million a year for the next 6-7 years, running in a lane where no one can touch me? Hard choice
He also has said he would love to try Soccer AFTER he retires from track. People don't realize how hard that sport is on your legs, especially when you have bad ass defenders going after them all the time
If Deion Sanders can run a 4.18 in his church shoes, I think Usain could get to 4.1
the dude is built!
And yeah I can't really think of anything we did that used our hands more than our feet. Bolt is actually a good soccer player but he is no where near as good as a professional. Not even the legs but the stamina it takes to be on that field stopping and going all the time would be difficult to transition to from sprinting... Two different muscle fibers you would have had to have trained. Where Bolts training has increased Fast Twitch muscle recruitment and more specifically TypeIIB fibers.... A soccer athlete has trained TypeIIA and Type I fibers more for stamina and for sustained speed... Not really much you can do to change genetics but training these fibers for so long makes it hard to change later. And yeah not arguing that he can make the transition now. I just said if he was born in America with his athletic ability and height football would probably be his sport and he would be better than Moss at it.
Bolt - just how fast is he? Great video of his running speed but ... "he ain't no football player!"
Lol that makes me feel good... I could have won the olympic in 1980! But that is a really good video, upvote.
Another " very classy" Bolt moment.
Which part a yard do you hail from?
I com from Linstead
Wow, you have been away a long time, or you left early, but you are the first Jamaican I have ever known that didn't call Jamaica "Yard"
As in "Mi from Yard. or Mi a Yardie or Mi gone backa Yard"
Ask you parents, I am sure they will confirm
But Linstead is where Dr Arthur Wint lived up to the time of his death, to continue the track theme
Jamaica's first great Track Star and the road going into The National Stadium is called Arthur Wint Dr
He was originally from over where I used to live in Hanover in a little place above Lucea called Cascade
Nice to "meet" you

I was asking if you were, a Yardi? and I referred to it on the board a Jamaica because I usually don't assume there are many Jamaicans on here. Also, you would be correct in assuming its been a while. I was 7. I actually did a term paper on Arthur Wint in high school. But yeah I actually don't even have an accent unless speaking Patois which I rarely do unless someone else is.
Nice to meet you too btw

Oh, sorry I misunderstood you
I am not Jamaican. I was born and raised in California
Started going there in the 70's and ended up living there for probably a total of about 4 years spread over 15 or so
I got involved in Reggae Music around 1975 or 76 which was an awesome, life altering experience
Evenly divided my time between Kingston. MoBay and Lucea
My wife is from Sav La Mar and we have been married 24 years Xmas Eve
Love that little Island, despite all the problems
