Bo ran a 4.1
two back set was beastly
hershel was on the cowboys at the time of the release of tecmo bowl, right?
Bo is the better athlete?
I just don't buy the two sport reasoning as the answer. It's not logical. Bo would have been the exact same athlete if he had chose to play 1 sport as most professional athletes do, as he was when he decided to play 2. Playing 2,3,4,5 or 0 sports is not a measure to his athleticism. He was very successful in both but he was not the best in either.
Chalking it up to him just because he decided to makes his career a two sport career instead of just one is laughable. I haven't seen everybody but from what I've seen in my life I'd say Lebron is the GOAT athlete. I believe he could play and be the best at several sports. Because he chose not to (wisely $$$$$$), that does not make him any less athletic.
Emmitt Smith is a first ballot HOF'er and Steve Young is also a HOF'er, so Pro-Bowls are pretty accurate back then. The best barometer to use today is All-Pro esp first team All-Pro.
yes, I always played with the raiders though... I'm not an idiot.
You aren't crazy for thinking he's a better athlete. It's be different if you were saying, Terrance Cody is a better athlete than Bo.
2009, 2011, 2012 Champs
First off, Young wasn't a starter in the NFL long enough to be carried by anyone. He left the game when he was still (relatively) at the height of his powers.
Secondly, you're pulling "statistically" out of your arse. Point out the statistics pre Jerry and post that tell the story. You can't, because there is no difference.
Of course the 49'ers were practically unstoppable when Joe had Jerry and John Taylor. But his numbers didn't fluctuate much at all from when he was throwing to scraps. This argument is only ever made by those with Brady or Manning hard-ons, or didn't see Joe play much, if ever. Joe only emphatically solidified his legacy with the playoffs and SBs - that's not what "won him most of his fame". What, all those 4th quarter comebacks and epic regular seasons held no meaning? You're basically calling him Terry Bradshaw
Put Joe in Payton's place on those Indy teams and he has 3 Super Bowl rings.
If you bring up multiple sports, Herschel also has done bobsledding and NMA. Not saying he was top of those sports but he did compete in them.
the amount of pro bowls is part of the equation of being HOF, of course they made it
it goes back to what you said, who would you take Emmitt or Herschel (to play with the same line, same qb, with the same coach)
If you pick emmitt then i'll just and concede
being in HOF or number of probowl's does not prove anything other than who had the most successful seasons. It's no mystery Herschel did not have many especially considering it was his lowest point in his career. According to NFL trade value 1 Emmitt = 1/18 Herschel's.
I think if you gave ten GMs the option of having Herschel in prime or BO in prime 10-10 would take Bo.
This. H Walker was about 20 years ahead of his time IMO.
you can google it, there are several statistical comparisons. Montana = Eli IMO
So because bo is overweight at 50+ he wasn't the better athlete? Makes perfect sense
I would def take Emmitt over Herschel for the NFL, that's not even debatable.
You're FOS. There are none.
I'm getting sick of people telling me to google things that don't exist. Don't Weedline me bro
It really isn't debatable.
This dude thinks Herschel walker was a better RB than Emmitt Smith in the NFL, funniest thing I've ever heard.
I'd pick Herschel over all. My favorite player growing up.
One game/One playoff run in either of their prime, I'd take Bo. He was an athletic freak but Walker wasn't far behind.
I said Bo was probably the better athlete
I know for a fact that between the two Herschel is the better athlete
I never said in the NFL, but yeah, I'll go with that. Herschel on Emmitt's team in the NFL Herschel does way better IMO. Pretty much common sense.
The way you jump back and forth between statistics and production then to well you have to look at the variables then back to looking at statistics/production/accolades is hilarious.
I don't know what to tell you then, I did a quick search and found several.
More rugged, more durable: Herschel routinely had 30+ carries a game and wore defenses down. Teams knew he was getting the ball and still couldn't stop him.
More explosive/Most feared by other team. Bo averaged 25% more yards per carry than Herschel, in part because he didn't run it 30+ times a game. But he was also a threat to go the distance every play. I cried after a couple of his Iron Bowls (1982 & 83...8 & 9 years old) as he was the reason Auburn won in 1982 and 1983. He had 2 long TD runs in the 1983 game.
Really depends on your offense in terms of system and other players. I'll take either or and be happy about it.
You get out of it what you put into it!
You're a UGA homer, no 1 would ever say Herschel was a better RB than Emmitt in the NFL unless you're a UGA fan.
Care to explain why?
