howie long was great on D
if you played with the bears you had singletary, duerson and dent on D to complement payton on O
lawrence taylor was the goat defender on that game
verb tense is very important when making this argument
I've said several times that Bo was probably the better athlete
B/c hes a better football player, how is this debatable? Just b/c Herschel runs a faster 40 time and is a better athlete it doesn't him make him a better RB. Emitt dominates in every statistical category, championships, toughness, durability, finding running lanes, balance; there is no debate. The only arguement for you is that Emmitt playedwith a great O-line, that's it. Look at any list of the greatest RB's of all time and every 1 has Smith over Herschel.
He ran a 4.12 handtimed 40.
So about a 4.27 or 4.3 actual 40.
10 Major Poll National Titles (CFB record)
35 Bowl Wins (CFB record)
72 Wins over last 6 years (CFB record)
As far as I know, Herschel owns the single season rushing yards record in professional football at 2411 yards. You can't discount his years in the USFL, add those stats with his NFL stats and he ranks up there with just about anyone. He's also an Olympian and MMA fighter.
It's almost disturbing to think he looks like this after a half century. He ran a 4.35 in 2011 and I bet he could start for most FBS teams today.
I also remember PSU shutting him down when every 1 thought he was unstoppable.
It's the argument every homer-time homer makes, always. If my guy had played with that guy he'd be all-world. And if that guy didn't have that guy he'd be average.
Emmitt S was so far superior a RB to Herschel that it's not even up for discussion. I wouldn't even put Herschel in the top 25 for RBs. Dude was insane in college though. Like Marcus Dupree
He was one of the top RB's in CFB history but you can't compare him in the NFL to guys that are top 10 RB's of all-time.
Everyone has list based off of statistical production, which is logical. I would too.
You wanted to make the argument statistics aside (because of the variables) who was better...
jmsmooth33 said... "Going by Stats is dumb, Emmitt has the most rushing yards in NFL history but no 1 thinks he's the best back of all-time b/c he had the best O-line in football history."
"If you are training and playing professional baseball it makes a huge difference on achieving your maximum potential as a football player. He only made the Pro Bowl twice in his NFL Career."
"The question is who do you think is better, not who had more yards or a better career based on numbers. If I had to win a game I would take Bo as my RB in the NFL, Herschel only made the pro bowl twice; that means he was only one of the best RB's twice in his 10 year career. Compare that to JIm Brown who made the Pro-bowl every year he played in the NFL and that's why he is considered the best RB of all-time."
if you're gonna try to make a point at least be consistent in your reasoning.
I did, I said he has the most rushing yards of all-time but i don't think he's better than Walter Peyton, Jim Brown, Barry Sanders etc. You're bringing up a guy who is not even considered a top 20 RB of all time in the NFL. I forgot to put soley by stats. You compared the two by STATS alone which is unfair, you can add stats in your arguement but it not the be all end all.

I don't care about the stats. I'm old enough to remember both and I say Bo was the best that there ever was and I'm a Bama fan.
28att 107yds 1 td rushing is shutting down Herschel
I can't find the quote online but I remember Vince Dooley saying Bo Jackson was better than HW.
Compare that to what he averaged that year for yards per attempt, TD's, and yards per game.

were not talking syntax, but semantics
so now we can use stats a little bit, but not much. gotcha
I did not compare the two by stats alone. I posted stats then gave sound reasoning aside from posting the stats. I didn't even post the all time yds post either.
ive been consistent, you can't carry the same logic throughout you're argument in the same thread
so now we are comparing statistics of Herschel to the statistics of Herschel, OK... well then yes Herschel was shut down by doing what would be a considered a good day for most running backs in a NC game
then it's official
This is all you posted, you are comparing the two based soely on stats. So I inferred that you were just comparing the two based purely on stats.
if this is the case then why would you specify "I would def take Emmitt over Herschel for the NFL, that's not even debatable."
Why just the nfl? If this is true surely you would take him in college as well, correct?
in one post I posted the stats of the two, correct
it seemed pretty relevant in a thread comparing the two
I can't seems to find the post where I referred to them as the reason Herschel was the better RB.
I did find this though...
jmsmooth33 said... "B/c he played MLB, only player who was an all-star in two sports."
...which is a joke.
B/c its Apples and Oranges, just b/c you are better in the NFL doesn't mean you are better in college and vice versa. It's a different game, you can dominate college fb like Charles Rogers, Ken Dorsey, Chris Weinke and suck in the pro's.
jmsmooth33 said... "a better football player, how is this debatable?", "a better RB", "Emitt dominates in every statistical category" ,"championships", "toughness", "durability", "finding running lanes", "balance"
...but only in the pros not college.
I presume you have this train of thought based off of statistics, no?
CFB is boys game, the NFL is a man's game.
ashame Bo couldn't hack it. only making 4 years with 1 pro bowl season. Herschel in the low of his career was able to scratch out multiple pro bowls in 13 years after dominating another professional league for 3 years
