I dunno. Missionaries are some pretty annoying people.
BornToBeRed said: WPS, just a head's up. We might be the most family-friendly board on the network, so take it easy on your normal wps-ness.
I think a large discrepancy is stemming from individuals differing definitions of historical documents and biblical documents.
Why do you spend so much time and try so hard to disprove that which you claim to not believe in?
I can understand that. I have never been one to push my beliefs, I will defend them till I die, but I believe one has to find religion for themselves.
Many Christians would disagree, but that is how I feel. I think being pushy just pushes people away.
Because there are people dying in Africa of AIDS because your religion tells them to.
It may be BS, but it has a real world impact.
Being pushy, yes, being evangelistic...answering the call.
Yay! We agree! High five!
Answering the call? Riiight...
I believe that if a group of people has survived for thousands of years without Christianity then they are just fine. Why force beliefs on those who don't need/want/understand? That's the part that confuses me. Why push your beliefs on them? Religion has caused more wars/deaths than any other single thing in the history of the world.
+1 for that.
I honestly don't care about someone's beliefs until they start influencing people around them.
Well everyone knows that old saying: Religion is like a penis...
I suppose that the fact that the largest Religious population in Africa being Islam and Islam forbids selective Birth Control has no bearing on that huh? Just blame the Christians.
...Don't put a bag over it or you'll go to hell?
If someone is seeking answers then yes spread the word, but just showing up on some island, for instance, and pushing it on them acting all superior is not the right way.
Now going somewhere and helping people improve their lives is okay and gives you the opportunity to evangelize when the inevitably ask you questions, but being pushy about it just drives them away imo.
If you are helping people and living right people will see that and they will want to know what you are about and when you tell them they may decide that it's for them too, but they should never be made to feel inferior if they don't.
If they never convert, you still have helped them in which ever way you did. And that's fine and all you can really do for sure.

Define pushing your belief.
It's why I am not opposed to gay marriage. I don't like it, but it's not my place to tell others how to live. This isn't Islam which teaches...shall we say a more active role for followers?
Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around... and PLEASE don't try to shove it down my throat.
Plenty of religious stories that are extremely similar to the one about Jesus.
10 Christ-like Figures who pre-date Jesus^10 Christ-like Figures who pre-date Jesus^I recently watched the documentary Zeitgeist (Part 1) as well as Bill Maher’s movie Religulous. Both made mention of claims often made that there are many stories that predate Jesus but have striking parallels. I decided to follow up on these claims and see what kind of information was out there to substantiate these assertions. As a non-christian, I am approaching this topic purely as an interested observer.^rushfan
45% to 40%, safe to say both religions are screwing Africa. Sub-saharan Africa is mainly catholic though, and that's the more impoverished area.
Are you suggesting that Christianity (in particular the catholic church) is in no way responsible for the AIDS epidemic in Africa?
Jesus athiesists can't help themselves but bash religious people. This thread was not spiteful at all and not directed towards them at all. I don't understand why they can't just stay out of the thread if they don't like it. This is one of the best series on the history channel
I always heard the punchline as 'children's throats'.
Nonsense. Christianity does not make those people have unprotected sex, or to have sex period. It is the fault of the individual. Trying to pin the problem on the Church, and in essence the West, is just an attempt by the Left to alleviate blame on the part of Africans. Actions have consequences it's as true in Africa as America.
I will wholeheartedly support virtually anything that limits the spread and influence of Islam.
Christianity >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (I'm missing some > signs) Islam
Meh. I'm 24 with no kids... that I know of...
