Of course Christians can have a joyful existence. However, denying yourself pleasures (i.e. premarital sex) in the hopes that it'll garner you some eternal reward in the afterlife is (in my mind) simply a waste of one's life. I would much rather fool around with my girlfriend for an extra hour every Sunday morning than go to church - but that's just me getting the most out of my life.
Also, I never said charity or benevolence causes pain and suffering, but it's simply mind-boggling to deny that religious strife causes incredible amounts of pain and suffering. From the Crusades, to the Inquisition, to modern-day Jihad, religions (and, specifically, religious differences) cause untold suffering.
Damn, you mad. Would you care to explain why my post is full of "fail," or are you just going to be that angry guy with nothing to back up his irrational distaste for people who disagree with him?
No, I object to the concept of organized religion as a whole, but the focus on the afterlife is just one of the aspects I particularly disagree with.
It is a futile fight you are fighting. The passion on both sides too great to overcome by either side.
We will all find out in the end I guess. But using ones time to try and adjust someone elses point of view isnt fair to either side.
If you cant be honest....whats the point of being anything?
Adults having a deep conversation and you want to talk punctuation?
I don't agree with you but you state your point well and I respect your right to do so without feeling the need to attack anyone.
Is it really that hard to hit the "." key instead of the "," key, though?
I do often wonder if this whole, "It's the Internet. Piss off with your spelling corrections!" has actually created a massive issue with people constantly misspelling and misusing words. Practice makes imperfect, you know.
I'm not trying to adjust anyone's point of view, I just enjoy tearing down ridiculous ideas and pointing out logical fallacies. I'm under no illusion that I'll actually change anyone's mind, especially about faith. If I do, great, but it's not intentional.
Exactly right...living a good life will not get you into the kingdom of God
You mad,,,I hate spelling nazis as much as the next guy but your inability to find your period(besides the one your on) is just retarded.
How can it be understood that belief, faith, prayer and acceptance of christ are the given basics of salvation when that isn't even agreed upon by christians themselves? Some believe that works are needed, some think that faith alone, some think that absolution from the earthly church is needed. The whole faith vs works argument in long drawn out and contentious. Regardless, the whole moral fabric of the afterlife construction is abysmal and really has no bearing on how one lives his life as long as one repents at the end of it. Forgetting all that, it is already too late for me since I committed the unforgiveable sin of saying, "There is no holy spirit". Kind of silly that I can be sent to hell for saying something so simple with no chance of getting out of it. Kinda sounds made up.
As someone with multiple friends who teach middle and high schoolers, according to them, the internet has contributed to a general destruction of English vocab, spelling, and grammar. I had a high school girl write me a business e-mail seeking an internship the other day in which she didn't capitalize anything and used "u" instead of "you." Willful ignorance is hilarious - one of the easiest ways to get ahead and separate yourself from the pack (especially as a younger person) is to demonstrate impeccable spelling and grammar.
Realizing that you are a sinner in need of a savior, asking God to forgive you of your sins and come into your life. Then you have to believe. God knows the intent of your heart.
All of you who don't believe in God already know this since you say you have done the research.
Yea, I wasn't sure why he asked,,,I think it's a trap.
So in other words, I couldn't believe even if we wanted to since God would know the 'intent of my heart' would just be to get into heaven and my belief wouldn't be sincere?
Aww, are your feelings hurt? Making "period " and "retarded" comments?
And you clearly don't hate them enough to avoid joining them.
Again, show some maturity.
This is a message board, not an English class. I use the written language quite well in my profession. I write proposals for millions of dollars and the punctuation that I utilize on the 247 Blue board is yet to have an effect on those.
Thanks for your input all the same.
Not all people just say a prayer to get into Heaven.
So, if Hitler truly believed he needed a savior and he asked God to forgive him, he goes to heaven...but an agnostic who spends her entire life caring for others and doing good works is damned for eternity?
Eh, just curious. A bunch of the Christians on this board seem to have varying opinions of what it takes to get into Heaven, so I like to know what someone things before I respond.
If a murderer is in prison, and asks for forgiveness (truly meaning it), I believe Jesus would forgive them. He is a forgiving God.
But, per your words, he knows the 'intent' of my prayer isn't sincere. I still don't really believe, I just fake it to try and sneak into heaven.
If it isnt sincere, I believe you will have to answer for it.
No man, it's not like it's common knowledge or 'obvious' given that your views are dependent on your particular sect of Christianity. Hundreds of millions of people who believe in god and Jesus would probably fry in the eyes of a Jehovah's Witness or Evangelical, no?
In other words, since I'm physically incapable of believing sincerely (just as you would be physically incapable of truly believing in Allah), then I'm doomed to eternity no matter what.
