Pretty much what you are suggesting is a "level playing field" huh? Sorry, life isn't fair
That's not what I said at all.
Very few people in this country are starving or have no where to live, and if someone is they must be the biggest moron on the planet since they live in a society in which the government actively advertises public assistance like free food, money and housing for people like them.
Well what are you then?
Exactly what are you laughing at?
You know you can't use that word. Haha. If that were the case WTF would the govt do. You really think they are going to want to have people less dependant on them. They bank on the fact that people "need " them. All that does is turn the "rich" into the govt. giving handouts to others. Doesn't solve the problem of equality. Still same problem just someone else footing the bill

In any proposed economy the ultra productive would still have far and away more than the middle class and common citizen. Their lives would not compare.
Lol. Forced to contribute their hard earned money huh?

How much more unequal are we than those other societies? Please show me the vast difference.
Also of many of those "more equal societies" the average person accumulates less in a lifetime than the average American.
That we should CARE. We can have discussions ad nausea about welfare, social programs, whatever. I've been on both sides of said discussions. It's the total disregard and flippant care for the life of another human being that bothers me. We're not plants. We're not dogs. Hell, we're not even Russians or Koreans or whatever. We're AMERICANS and we're HUMAN BEINGS. We're supposed to care about each other, supposed to be neighbors.
"For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’"
Actually no, another poster "fsufsu" is the one who made it up.
And people can care for each other without taking others money in which they have worked hard for.
Don't see how Bill Gates getting richer affects my life any, but whatever.
No, people don't care. That's the point. I've seen it time and time again in multiple threads on here. People don't care about other people. It's as obvious as the night sky outside my window.
And really, what's so wrong with giving a little bit to help those that need it? That's just another example of not caring. Giving a little to help =/= giving all to help a freeloader, but that's what people equate it to. And I've never supported that.
No one should be required to give any of their money if they do not want to.
If people need more money....get another job
Obviously I said forced to contribute as in work.
Whatever happened to patriotism? To brotherhood? How can you care so little about your fellow man?
If Bill Gates was a 5 billionaire instead of 40 would he be worse off? Would the couple million families that are brought out of poverty have better lives?
And why should a millionaire be forced to help anyone out?
Let me guess...you support even more handouts than what we have now?
I still don't see what this has to do with the wealth inequality we are supposed to care so much more about. We already have programs that keep people fed, housed, etc. not really our duty to provide more than that.
How would Bill Gates having less money bring families out of poverty? If the answer is that the astronomical tax rate you are proposing would be given to the poor I would say all that would do is send the Bill Gates' of the country out of the country, then we are all screwed.
If Bill Gates has $100-billion instead of $40-billion am I any worse off? No...I wouldn't be.
Not handouts. Work programs. Something, this isn't my strongest discussion topic. I know what I agree with but dont understand all the levers to the system well enough to provide a solution.
The fact is you don't care. Jeff doesn't care. And a ton of Americans don't care. You say there are, "programs that keep people fed, housed, etc." but don't care how they work (or say they should be abolished) without any concern for anyone.
Look, I like you guys, but you represent a large group of Americans that no longer cares about other Americans. It's not just class warfare or race warfare or whatever warfare; it's just simple American warfare. We're a nation that's supposed to stand as one, supposed to care about each other, supposed to stand as one. But we hate each other, we really do. I could write an essay about how people detest the successful and the poor for various reasons. We are the most abhorrent and cynical country/generation in ages. And it really just kills me to watch it happen.
Sorry for caring about people. I guess that makes me a bad person.
I feel like I am round tabling it at a very rural tea party meeting and my liberal futurist friend BLF came along for teh lulz.
