Dont know if you saw this and I cant believe I just heard about it. Damn 30 miles off the coast and Estimated between 16-18 ft. This answers my questions if they hang out off our Gulf Coast. I just wonder how rare this really is?
From the blog ABC News Blogs: For Captain Joe Maisano of Treasure Island, Fla., and fishermen Fab Marchese of Ontario, Canada, it seemed like it would be just another day out on the water, but that quickly changed when then two fishermen spotted a rare Great White shark. Maisano, 26, was...
That is really cool, thanks for the link. I just sent it to everyone in my email account. lol.. Yeah man, they are there but in how many numbers is the question. Deep water squid is the only think we can think of they feed on outside of an occasional tuna or whale carcass.
Also, it it;s 18 feet it's not only a Great White, but a large Great White. That is even more interesting to me than anything.
Here's the other Great White he is talking about. Dude killed it but got caught
This is close to where Lamp and I go fishing out of sometimes so this is intrigues me that much more. By looking at the girth of the shark in the video you can tell she is BIG. I to was surprised she could be in the 16-18ft range. The 10-12ft although still not what we are used to around here it doesnt shock me as much as the size of this one and it only being 30 miles out. I really hope this intrigues the Ocearch crew even more to track these Sharks up and down the gulf coast.
Holy crap. I've been making fun of my friends on the east coast about the migration. Guess I need to STFU.
Then you guys picked a great spot to fish from. That's a great area. It's definitely one of the better areas in the state. It's almost like you get the best of both worlds.
I'm wondering if these fish shot straight up to the rigs after following the Gulf Stream around or they continue on and move along the shelf. A tagging program in the Gulf would be by far the coolest thing I could think of they could do. It would be hard as hell and I don't know how you would even go about it, but if they got just one or two it would be worth it. We know next to nothing abut these fish in this part of the state.
We love our area, we also fish (him more than me) the Boca Grande, Pine Island area alot as well. Anyways, I agree with you. If they can tag just a few of these sharks it would be bad ass. Its almost like they would have to get lucky and just randomly catch one.
FVCK THE OCEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
