This according to someone who attended Crimson Caravan tonight. Said Coach Saban said the news should come out pretty soon. I would love to see that matchup. I'm guessing it'd be played in the Georgia Dome. What do you all think about this potential matchup?

2009, 2011, 2012 Champs
Saban is a West Virginia boy and still has a home up there. One game deal in the Georgia Dome? Sounds like fun.
Love CNS as he will play anybody. Bama definitely ain't skarred to open the season against top 10 teams.
Virginia Tech- 2009
Virginia Tech- 2013
West Virginia- 2014

Lulz, all those teams were the smart choice who never really had a chance at challenging you imo
VT = doesn't have the horses in the trenches to compete with a Bama
Clemson = that was a joke right ?
Michigan = meh, still rebuilding under Hoke.... you are playing them at a good time for you and not for them, Michigan doesn't match up with Bama at all
WVU = another team like VT who just doesn't have the horses up front
Sorry, but play anybody ? not quite, these were all smart games to pick cause the chances of Bama losing were slim to none
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
Let's be honest, Nova. You could say that about any team. That's how good we are. We can only play the teams who are man enough to step up and play us. It's not really our fault if we're that much better than everyone else. Plus we scheduled the Clemson and VT games when we were still not any good.
Clemson was a favorite going into that game (we were 7-6 the previous year)
Virginia Tech went 10-3 that year and finished in the top 10 in the country
Michigan is coming off a BCS appearance and win
Who's to say how good VT or WVU will be in these future years.
Regardless, this is a good schedule of games. Very good, in fact.

True, Im not saying these are pussy matchups or that you are running from anybody else
But lets be serious, that isn't a murderers row of teams you are facing, most don't recruit on nearly the same level
Only Clemson does and even they are a huge drop off in overall talent
Michigan just came back to relevance and also isn't ready for the likes of Bama

I do want some payback for 07.
That game didn't happen.
That or Jerry World which is in Big 12 country.
But apologies for the ass kicking in advance. Hopefully your prosthetic balls wont hurt too much after we curb stomp them
2014 LSU vs Oklahoma
If true now I see why LSU is playing soft schedule this year. 2012 and 2014 murders row. VA Tech will be replacing QB, won't they?
When ? depends, most think Logan leaves after this season but I think he is in for a rough year and won't be the first rounder everybody thinks right now
Who outside the SEC would be on our level to begin with?
Saban is set on the neutral site game for the most part which takes USC out of the equation as Larry Scott won't allow that and made a rule that any neutral site game be only shown on the PAC12network.
West Virginia is probably the best, and definitely one of the top 2 teams in the Big12 right now. Clemson was in the top 10 when we played them. Can't help that we exposed them. Va Tech is the best program in the ACC. Michigan just had 10 wins, won the Sugar Bowl, and should be top 10-15 to start the season.
3 time POTW, member since 2006, MLWTI: 4-3
Sounds like another beat down
I have no idea. I wasn't at the Caravan. Just relaying what the guy that was there said Saban told the crowd. I'm going to assume he's telling an accurate story. It has to be either in Dallas or Georgia. Georgia would make more sense.
WVU just put up 70 on your conference's champion in a BCS bowl game.
VT is and has been the best program in your conference for several years and wins it most years.
Michigan beat that VT team in a BCS bowl game last season.
EDIT: Point being, Alabama is either playing the best your conference has to offer or teams that are better than your entire conference.
Good argument, though. It's hard to find OOC teams that can match up with Alabama right now. We already play the best teams in America in the SEC. The last two OOC teams to beat Alabama were Utah and Louisiana-Monroe. As long as we stay away from them, we should be ok.

I think Alabama would roll through WVU like a hot knife through butter. The best match ups for this one would be in the stands (among the fans).

TCU is in 2013
TCU is in 2013 - 2014
Oklahoma is 2018 - 2019
You got to admit Bama and LSU play some great OOC games
We have historically as well and I am a bit scared Jimbo will end that
Pretty much this. He's friends with the president and AD at West Virginia and always thought this was going to happen. Here's to Dana Holgerson having a great career at WVU and they never come calling for their boy to come home.
well they are a Big 12 club now .
WVU To Face Alabama In 2014 Kickoff Classc
8 mins ago
West Virginia University will meet the defending National Champs, Alabama, in the 2014 Chic-Fil-A Kickoff Classic.Tickets to the game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta will be split evenly between the two schools in an effort to create a true neutral site game."Alabama and West Virginia are consistently among the premier teams in the country and we're thrilled to be able to host such a high profile game with representatives from the SEC and the Big 12," said Gary Stokan, Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO. "This will be an epic blockbuster-type game the nation will anticipate for a long, long time and will continue our tradition of showcasing two top-ranked teams to open the season on Saturday night."West Virginia last played in the Georgia Dome in the 2006 Sugar Bowl and defeated Georgia 38-35 in that BCS bowl game.WVU fans have been wanting to see these two teams meet for some time. Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban is a West Virginia native. He is from Marion County."The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game is an outstanding event and we look forward to opening the 2014 season in Atlanta," said Nick Saban, Alabama head coach. "Gary Stokan and his staff do a great job in hosting this game and the atmosphere in the Georgia Dome has been like a BCS bowl game in our previous experiences there. The exposure for our football players and our program is tremendous and it is a great experience for our fans. This will be the sixth time we have played a non-conference game at a neutral site, and the fourth time at Atlanta.""I believe that playing an opponent that has the national reputation that West Virginia does, one of the top programs in the country, provides a great challenge for our players and gives us something to look forward to in the offseason," Saban said. "We are privileged at the University of Alabama to be a part of what has become a great tradition in college football with first-class organizations like the Chick-fil-A Bowl and the City of Atlanta."
Alabama is 10-8-1 all time against teams from the Big 12 with their most recent match-up ending in a victory over Texas in the 2009 BCS National Championship Game.
West Virginia is 24-22-2 all time against teams from the SEC and defeated Georgia to win the 2006 Sugar Bowl the year it was played in Atlanta's Georgia Dome, site of the game with Alabama. "Playing in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game is a great opportunity for our football program and will be an exciting event for our fans," said Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia head coach. "Alabama is one of the top teams in college football history, and it will be a tough challenge for us." "Playing in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game is yet another great way to showcase our football program on a national stage," Director of Athletics Oliver Luck said. "Playing Alabama will match-up two programs with great college football traditions. I have known Nick Saban since my playing days at West Virginia, and I have the utmost respect for him and his program."
West Virginia and Alabama have never played. Alabama will meet Virginia Tech in the 2013 Chic-Fil-A Kickoff Classic.

WVU could never match what bama is paying Saban so that shouldn't be a concern. Will Saban one day retire as the coach of WVU? I could see that as possible just because this is his home.
I get your point Nova, but seriously who do you expect us to play. I know preseason rankings are pretty much meaningless excluding the top 4 or 5 but VT, Clemson were both preseason top 10 teams. If i'm not mistaken the 1st time we beat VT they went on to win the ACC and won 10 of their last 11 games...may be wrong though. Clemson fizzled out after we beat them I think. Michigan will probably be a preseason top 10 and have a good chance to win the Big10. Not sure where WV will be when we play them but it's certainly a team that is capable of beating a lot of good teams and they will only get better talent wise playing in a better conf. Recruiting will be better for them in that aspect. I enjoy reading your post because you are a realist but I'm not sure who you think we should be scheduling considering our conference schedule. Either way success comes in cycles and I'm going to enjoy this ride because it was 6 short years ago we were average at best and that could return after Saban leaves....it all comes in cycles. So for now I say bring on who ever wants to get in the ring with the bull. Enjoy your posts though man.
The day Saban leaves Bama it's to retire to the lake house.
