BLF, this one of those rare points we agree on. I would actually prefer to legalize all drugs. Up the penalties for selling to minors (as in class 1 felony), but let adults toke up, shoot up or snort away all they want.
Which takes place in the same fantasyland of global warming, education, and single payer.
As adults we clearly have the right to destroy ourselves since alcohol, cigarettes, sugary drinks are all legal and doctors are pushing pain pills like crack dealers. Why can't I get high?
I got called out for using the wrong class name for Xanax earlier but seriously, how post-modern must we be that we outlaw a natural substance and then push narcotics on folks for the same desires and purposes. The housewives of America who are currently drinking wine with a pain pill most nights because their husband stopped loving them 10 years ago would be better off if they were just smoking some plant matter.
I don't think the Government has any business telling people what we can or can't put into our bodies. Should prevent sale or distrobution to minors like alcohol but beyond that.....piss off.
because it would only increase crime.
unlike drug lords (whom do not follow the rules) are armed to the tilt while a "legalized drug outlet" would be easy prey for punks/thugs/& junkies.
those dumb enough to take them already take them, legal or not.
on a side note:
we should empty our prison systems (decrease thte budget) by para-dropping them all into the middle East. 1way airfair & a chute is far less expensive than annual free housing.
How would the legalization of the production, sale and possession of drugs increase crime?
read post & comprehend take.
or get off the pipe, & then re-read post
I'm just saying, by definition, if we legalize all drugs, then overall crime numbers drop drastically, and countless police resources are freed up. While some new crimes might emerge (people trying to knock over distributors), the corresponding increase in those crimes won't come close to matching the decrease in crime by effectively removing all drug crime from police blotters. All of the manpower and police resources freed up by no longer having to concern themselves with petty drug offenses can then be turned towards addressing any marginal amount of new crimes that pop up (ex. protection of distributors).
Also, if you're going to say that drug lords are going to still cause problems, I just have to ask you - how long after prohibition ended did alcohol smugglers keep raising a fuss?
i've never once heard of a drunk stealing a drink at the bar by gun point.
if we want to increase national revenue start taxing all monies earned (by "anyone" working in the US)
legalized weed & booze are imo on the same playing field for discussion but i hope you arent saying legalized crack-houses would reduce crime.
what if all crime ended, Obama collected every gun, & the entire Counrty turned into spastic tree-hugging Libs singing kumbaya ?
I can read just fine. Try not being an idiot when describing things in the future...dumbass
That's your response when you obviously misread a sentence?
Nope. That's my response to you...a dumbass. I probably just don't know what "us" means
So it was properly framed in the original post, explained again, you still don't get it and I am a dumbass? You're projecting hard core right now.
Legalization of all drugs would reduce crime as a whole.
Border crime (other than that related to human trafficking) and gang related crime over drug territory would all but be eliminated almost instantly.
No more jailing of users and small time sellers ( as long as they were not caught selling to minors).
May have a few more users and thus a few more b&e crimes to steal for money.
Compare the severity of the first and last one and I think I would take that trade off. This is especially true given the increased resources that could be applied to all non-drug related crimes. My biggest concern would be how we handle those that choose to throw their life away on drugs. I have no problem using some of the tax money to set up drug treatment, but those that refuse would be left to their own devices (tough love) or charity of others.
As far as the taxing issue that CG brought up, if we stick with the income tax (bad idea, but likely COA) we should tax all income the same. Everyone gets a basic deduction (poverty level) and every dime you make above that is taxed at the set rate. I do not like that some of the richest who make money in "non-traditional" ways can pay very low effective tax rates, just as I detest that lower income (above poverty level) avoid federal taxes which they benefit from (just under 50% of people do not pay fed tax). If you have no skin in the game, I really do not value your opinion on how gov't funds should be spent.
In response to how we would handle the other users I would say that health insurance should basically be denied to those who test positive for heroine, meth and the harder drugs. Either literally denied or made so expensive its untenable.
Drugs shouldn't be illegal but there should be repercussions. Marijuana should be treated like cigarettes or alcohol. Mostly though this country needs to go to war against obesity and sugar drinks. It is creating an acidic Ph blood level in this country that breeds cancer and disease as well as causing massive cost load with diabetes and joint failure.
I got carded at Depot today buying some liquid thread-tape.
I'm guessing 21 is the legal age to huff.
mind eraser is the truth. Whenever I have any in the past, it has been right before bedtime. Last night tho, I was at a bar, drinking, doin a lil blow, you know just a typical teausday. The bartender girl asked me if I wanted some Xanny's, and I said sure, so she gave me a couple of bars. I decided to take one, at around 1 am or so. I fucking wake up in my be this morning with absolutely no clue of how I got there. My roommate tells me all kinds of shit I was doing last night, and I remember absolutely none of it.
