I mean...I love both, but together?
-Is this strictly a Southern thing/dish?
-Does syrup enter the picture as a rule and only for the waffles, and/or contact with the chicken is a breach of etiquette?
I totally have to imagine the chicken on buttered waffles is delicious, but I'm curious if this is a Joe's Diner thing, or if this is a popular recipe that Southerners make at home...on purpose?
And to reiterate....is syrup mandatory? Recipes? Serving suggestions?
For the culinary professionals in this arena....spill it, gang...
It's considered a predominantly black and Pennsylvania Dutch dish.
There is something really amazing about a sweet and savory combination with food. A sweet, crisp on the outside but soft on the inside waffle paired with a crunch, salty piece of chicken. Yum. Syrup isn't mandatory - I feel the waffle batter, if done right, is enough. A little butter is mandatory though.
This. Roscoe's in L.A. and Lolo's in Phoenix are
I was in Georgia earlier this year, and a couple buddies from TX ordered this combo every chance they had....if there had been a chicken and waffle vending machine, they would have camped-out in front of it with a pocket full of quarters.
Roscoe's in LA is amazing. You have to just go and try it to experience it.

will you make some at our tailgate?
i dont get it either i would much rather have some sausage if im eating waffles
Love me some chicken and waffles. Wish more places up north had it.
Take a waffle, place a piece of fried chicken with some swiss cheese and some bacon inside it. Drizzle hot sauce and maple syrup over the it. Holy hell its delicious.

I've never seen it down here.
holy cow my tastebuds are singing
Roscoe's brother...Roscoes! I took a couple of friends from Georgia to the one by my old pad in Long Beach, and they were blown away! Interestingly enough they had never had that combo of food before. That was dinner...we finished the night off with Tommy's.
You'd think I would have made that trek at some point....nope.
Julie's and the 32 got all my hangover business.
Julie's created the hangover. LOL
You're a Trojan, so you surely must have been to one of LAs gems in Roscoe's, no??

You see that sign that says 'Rib Tips'??
No, that was my point above.
Back in the day - A 2 cheese enchilada/chicken taco, rice/beans combo (with 2-3 margs), trumped chix/waff - at least for me.
Get on down to Sunset and Gower and get you some. Mexican food in LA is second to none, but Scoe's is no joke. I usually get a Carol C. special - 1 breast and 1 waffle and a side of collards.
my grandma used to make a chicken and waffle dish when i was a kid. make the waffles then you cook the chicken and get all the meat off and put it in some gravy and you pour that over the waffles.........f'n amazing
That's Pennsylvania dutch style. Equally delicious IMO, but definitely a different dish from the soul food version.
I was pretty skeptical of chicken and waffles myself...but then I went up to Sylvia's in Harlem and ordered it and wowowowowow. I'm not sure why it works, but holy hell does it ever
Is their a reason a waffle is used instead of a pancake, because they are basically the same thing
It makes me want to
Disgusting mess of fattening junk with zero nutritional value.

I love chicken and waffles, and it is not predomantly blacks who love like weed line said. I used to work in a country club and they loved some chicken and waffles
