I have a 9 year old and a 4 year old and they're begging for an inside pup. Here are some preferences:
Hair Length: no preference
Shedding: less the better
Energy Level: average or below
Personality: neutral to good hearted
Size: medium to tiny

"Nobody makes me bleed my own blood, nobody!"
Here you go, always go with a dog that will not shed imo. Especially if your going to keep it inside.

Jack Russell. Great with kids. Great personalities.
Those are cool little dogs
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
I had a Lhasa apso who lived to be 16. He was a wonderful dog, who loved people. He didn't require exercise, but he loved to go for walks (it could help teach the kids responsibility). He loved to cuddle and be around me. He was such a good boy, and I still miss him and think about him every day almost two years after he died.
Plus, they are so effin' cute.
Yeah they are perfect for what the op is looking for IMO
"Strap on" is "No parts" spelled backwards...coincidence--- I think not!
If you're looking for an inside-dog, I recommend one that doesn't shed. I love my Goldens, but they shed like crazy, and it's annoying having to vacuum the carpets and brush them all the time.
Personally, I recommend Labradors. They are big (I don't like small dogs), smart, and don't shed.
Edit: Labs are great with kids, too.

I have a Boston Terrier and my girl has a Chiweinie and they're excellent inside dogs.
Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.
Great feedback. I forgot our friend had a Jack Russell, great dog, lots of fun. Based on looks alone the kids fell in love with the Lhasa Apso pics above. Looks very kind hearted and laid back. This will be a tough decision....

My nine year old could ride that thing to school. Hey it's just two miles down to road.
Just saw the link, wow this will indeed be tougher than I realized. Many many good options.
Red.. I posted pics of my girls dog and mine and they're absolutely incredible inside dogs. In the English Bulldog thread. Amazing dogs.
Get one from a shelter.

Dachshunds are great with kids.
Cool dog, sheds like crazy. Short hair.
I'm heading to the gym but I'll check it out ASAP
Lab/Pit mix from the shelter. Sweet, loyal, little shedding, healthy, and kid friendly.
G/f's roommate has one. 80 lbs of muscle and as sweet as he can be. Very affectionate dog. Loves to play too and gets along with other dogs.
I had a corgi growing up, those things are awesome. 30 pounds max, not much shedding, and fun as all hell.
I have a westie. Awesome dogs. Really good with kids anh they get 18-20 pounds max
I've got a Jack Russell, and I wouldn't trade it for any dog in the world.
Basset Hound, doesnt get too big, good with kids, good dog for adults too and personality to burn.
Boston Terriers are awesome inside dogs. Easy to train and have some cool personalities. Here's mine..
Bichon Frises are amazing dogs, and they don't shed. The are basically like small poodles but cute.
