Speaking of that - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Also. Arlington Road. Fantastic twist.
The Good The Bad & The Ugly. One of the most epic endings in cinematic history.
American Beauty is one that comes to mind.
Thread should have been locked after this^, nothing is even close imo
Titanic......they said the ship was unsinkable....great twist had me on the edge of my seat.
Inglourious Basterds caught me off guard. I wasn't prepared for the alt-history ending.
The Shawshank Redemption is my favorite movie of all time, so that ending is one I love.
I also enjoyed the "end" (really the last minutes) of Enemy at the Gates.

Maybe not the best, but 'Rocky' has one of the better endings out there.

Lucky Number Slevin
Golden is better then Jimbo... I feared it was true. He is going to hoist a crystal ball there - fsufsu
Ooh, good call. I'm gonna piggyback offa this and say Rocky II had a great ending. He won the title at the very last second and nobody close to him died (the death of a loved one is an overused and overrated plot device, IMO).
I'm just gonna throw this out there just becausies. American Pie 2 had a great ending as well. Everyone either got laid or had a blast at the party and nobody saw the Sherminator/Nadia hookup coming. The scene where Jim showed up at band camp and interrupted Michelle's solo performance with some retarded sounding trombone blasts was awesome. Great flik.

Edit to add Tombstone gets a nod.
Liam Neeson shooting that fat old guy holding a knife to his daughter's throat was quite excellent!
The Future Is Bright! Hotty Toddy
Apocalypse Now. "The Horror ....... The Horror."
And I shall rejoice in victory for another 365 days over That School Up North.
Second that... and it's not even debateable. BEST. MOVIE. EVER.
Agreed. It's not even close. You have to watch the movie three times to pick stuff up in it and the ending is freakin' awesome.
Funny side note, my buddy saw it with a kid that spoke hungarian/turkish (not sure what one translates), but his buddy told him in the beginning of the movie that keyser means verbal in english! LMAO!! Was ruined.
Another one is that while I was bartending at Rosie O'Grady's in NYC, the guy who played Redfoot came in one night and hung at the bar the whole night... dude had serious drug problem as he was shot to sh!t.
The only one better to come in that bar??? NORM!!!! :)
As for sports, Rocky gets the nod. Everybody wants the dog to win and he doesn't... classic.
What a tough question.
You have the obvious answers like usual suspects and momento, where you walked away in shock. Others in this category would be 6th sense, departed, fight club, se7en and even citizen Kane to a different degree.
Then there are the more historical very well done endings. In here I have Casablanca, Chinatown, Bonnie and Clyde, clockwork orange, shane and the graduate.
