Thought Ponder was a horrible pick when the Vikings drafted him as early as they did. Feel the same about Manuel. We all know that Fisher is thought of as a QB guru, but come on now. He's produced JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, Ponder, and Manuel. FSU fans this isn't an attack just not seeing what the NFL brass is. Honest question for everyone besides Nova do you think Ponder and Manuel were worthy of a first round pick? Before people start getting defensive I had Ogletree and Minter ahead of Te'o at the ILB position and yes Quinn and Clausen are career backups at best.
Pro style offense and Fisher is a QB guru.
Ponder was pretty good before he got injured and if he is able to recover he will live up to his hype.
Jemarcus Russel had everything that was needed except work ethic when he wasn't around Fisher. He took his NFL money and ran.
EJ Manuel is the best QB in this draft. He has the measurables, the experience, and the pro system down. He also displays the abilities of being mobile, smart, and having character.
Please tell me how 6'2" Geno tossing laterals in a spread is more impressive.
Or Barkley lol.
Nassib's coach passing over him and taking another QB speaks volumes.
I think EJ Manuel should have gone to the eagles in the early second round if he was to succeed. Ponder should have gone late first.
But in the end IDGAF about if they succeed in the NFL, that is on the QBs head not Jimbo's. Having 3 first round QB picks helps our CFB team which has priority in my eyes. Jimbo will continue landing Winston caliber prospects because of it, what are other coaches going to say? We don't send QBs into the NFL but at least ours aren't average?
Ponder ended the season in the middle of the QB rankings, which is a improvement over his freshman year. The Vikings have a piss awful offense besides AP.

My personal opinion is that Jimbo does a great job of giving his guys sound mechanics and teaching them how to handle and attack defenses on the whiteboard. So when it is time to interview and throw they are more than prepared. I don't think you can judge if a college coach is a QB guru based on pro success though. The games are different and NFL success is very much about self motivation. And if you were to judge a college QB coach on pro success who actually passes mustard? All Spurrier guys were busts. Meyer's guys aren't starters. Stoops has one starter in the league and Brown has zero. The list would just go on and on like that.
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
People forget that Ponder was awesome his junior year until he got knocked out of the Clemson game. Injuries, injuries, and injuries, and arm strength were his only question marks. He is a west coast system fit like a Matt Barkley, but unlike Barkley he has great speed to scramble. A lot of the mocks before his senior year had Ponder and Jake Locker as the top QBs that year.
I beleive 3 or 4 QBs were taken ahead of Ponder hence him going early in the 1st In 2010.
There were alot of people saying EJ was a lock with the 6th pick in the 2nd round. even EJ hinted that the eagles loved him on TV, so Buffalo went ahead and took him at 16, who knows maybe they wanted to trade down to the end of the first but couldn't find any buyers.
For lots of reasons Kiper and McShay are idiots, but Mayock had him as his number 2 QB in the draft after the combine. Unlike Geno Smith, EJ ran a prostyle offense with NFL concepts.
EJ has the most athletic ability of any QB in the draft. Physically he is a poor mans Cam Newton. Which isn't a bad thing. He never put it all together mentally on the field, and some question Fishers "in your face" style of coaching. EJ seemed to be someone that takes the yelling personal and you could see in games where he struggled where it looked like he just shut down mentally while Fisher rides him. Obviously the bills coaches think they can "fix" EJ
He is definitely not a QB that should start his first year.
Did not read lolol
Didn't read any of the novels myself. Just wanna say it brings me great joy to see these FSU QBs go first round.
And I wanted to drop this off.
Jesus, if even you suck balls Jimbo is going to get you 1st round $$.
