Can someone explain why Tennessee is a better job than Louisville?
Well, you could go to Louisville, where half of the town does not care about football, and you struggle to fill the stands with a BCS bowl bound team. Or you could go to Tennessee where everyone loves you, and believes you are going to be the next coming of Christ.
This pertains to recruits just as well as coaches. Sounds like a rather easy choice.
Butch Jones. Who???
I didn't know that.
What about talent? he has a young team with a very good QB and going to ACC
No doubt that he has pieces in place in Louisville. That may convince him to stay.
You're a good poster man. You don't get riled up like a bunch of us do here when someone posts something negative about your team. +1 to you.
I learn from the best
'Preciate that man. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the team I root for and I'm in no position to tell them they are wrong. It's their opinion after all.
Thats a great attitude to have. Wish I could be as mature as you.
They still make a better hire than Gus, IMO.
Tressell still has the "show cause" tag on him. Butch Davis doesn't. Doubt it will be either, but Butch wouldn't shock me I suppose.
Bring the sweater...
It's been confirmed that Tressel and Haslam have met multiple times. Initially they spoke about the UT gig but mutually agreed it wasn't a fit. The subsequent meetings were about Tressel potentially taking a role with the Browns (not as HC).
gahlee, this is becoming cryptic. Strong reportedly told players nothing at all about his future, but Tennessee's AD has been in Louisville for a good bit. A lot of smoke coming out of Louisville.
Louisville is more of a football school than Kentucky
Mike Hughes @ITVHughes
Not getting good vibe from complex. Players don't appear excited. Strong snuck out. No news.
Stephon Robinson was shaking his head.
"Fallon Smith WATE 6 @FallonMSmith
RT @GregGaston25: Via Louisville player: Charlie Strong is leaving UL and will be named the next head coach of Tennessee"
And I shall rejoice in victory for another 365 days over That School Up North.
Saw all of that. Then read a ton of other tweets saying he was staying. The consensus appears to be that he is torn. I hate it for the Louisville players. He brought them all in there to get to a BCS bowl, and a better conference, and now he is possibly packing up camp after he achieved the goal. Like a stepping stone.
It's better to take your time and find the right coach than hurry through the process to save recruiting for one year. UT is taking their time. Smart move.
Btw.....if the wait until after the BCS championship game, they could offer Kirby Smart.
I think the UT administration has a bad taste in their mouth after the whole Saban disciple situation we had this past few years.
Most would rather go the opposite direction. Great coach though. Seems like a more finely tuned version of Muschamp.
He hasn't been around the homeboard either, FWIW. Odd considering all the madness going on.
^^^ This ^^^ But with all these coaches turning down UT there has to be a story behind the scenes. I understand Gruden not taking it...I understand Gundy turning the lights off....but Strong??....For Louisville....really? I could be wrong but there's an untold story lingering here. Dooley was supposedly their 4th option and now they are on their 4th option with this hire. The UT job is a very good job. Storied tradition, big time money, good facilities, the SEC, a passionate but frustrated fan base and nobody wants to touch this job....so you can't tell me there's not a story behind the scenes. Just sayin'
Over the past 5 years, there has been a serious struggle with academics and athletics. Our Chancellor has been restricting the athletic department on who they can recruit based on how well those students do in high school to try in bring in athletes that could contribute towards his goal of a top 25 research facility.
This clearly has not worked as no coach wants to go somewhere where the University is telling them who they can recruit. You could never implement your full system as the coach with such hindrances. Hart is trying to fix this issue but it has been a struggle.
Jimmy Cheek needs to wake up or this program will sleep for a lot longer. I've heard he's been a thorn in the Athletic Dept side. I guess it's showing it's trueness now.
I agree, man. It's so disheartening.
