Butch will have two losing seasons in a row. The "new" will be gone and recruiting will get back to normal. Vandy will have a three game win streak. Do they swallow their pride and go after Franklin from Vandy?
Butch Jones. Who???
Fulmer narrowly beats Bielema and Charlie Weis in a wing eating contest to reclaim the job.

"get back to normal". UT recruiting will be back to normal after they lose to Vandy and UK again this year.
Also, Franklin is not going to take a lateral move in conference. He will get a much better offer from somewhere in the PAC or B1G. I could see him jumping on an offer from Oregon St. or Cal. Honestly they would have been better off if they let Dooley have another year or 2 to get his players in.
If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.
Agreed, they should have let Dooley coach this season then fired him. That schedule is brutal.
He wasn't doing that bad. He almost beat LSU the other year.

Many Tennessee fans don't like me — maybe because I tend to call things what they are, and Tennessee hasn't been good in a while — but how in the world could anyone say with a straight face that they know Butch Jones won't win there?
Just looking at the facts here...
1) Jones has been an FBS coach for 6 seasons and won at least a share of 4 conference titles.
2) Jones has assembled a top-ranked 2014 recruiting class and fourth-ranked 2015 recruiting class before coaching a single game at Tennessee.
What about his first 7-8 months suggests long-term failure is coming?
Everyone knows they're not gonna be very good this season, and probably not that hot in 2015, either. It's a rebuilding process. Kids these days aren't that dumb. Talk to them. They know the Vols won't be that good in 2014. They know that. How could they not know that?
I know the SEC is a ridiculous league, but nothing about Jones' first 7-8 months has suggested that failure is the most likely end result there.

Tennessee needs David Cutcliff back. He was Tennessee football IMO.
Because I'm thirsty and y'all steal my water.
7 reasons Butch fails.
Lane Kiffin will return to finish what he started after winning a title at SoCal.
He did say "can't win there" I probably could coach Tennessee to a win over Austin Peay.

You lost me on the Vandy part.
I'm sorry, man, but there's absolutely no realistic reason to suspect Vanderbilt is a long-term threat to Tennessee.
I think Vandy might win in Knoxville this season, but with the way Jones is recruiting, that thing is gonna swing back the normal way in a hurry.
People act like Tennessee has been some wasteland of failure for decades. History shows that's not at all the case. When the job is done correctly there, Tennessee wins. A lot.

He hired some terrible coaches for one. He plays a very difficult schedule. Can he sustain whatever recruiting "success" you feel he's had. Fulmer recruited nationally because of the lack of talent in Tenn.
Butch got Wes drunk now.
Tennessee has Oregon this year. Next two years pick up Oklahoma then pick up Nebraska. Those games on top of the SEC schedule will be a lot . Even if he does get to 8-4 how long will Tennessee fans put up with 8-4 seasons?
We will see. I would bet GA is looking for a coach before TN.

This is the problem with people's oversimplification of our jobs.
You can't say anything "bad" about the school you cover without being called a hater. I've been called a Georgia fan, a Florida fan, a Bama fan, an Auburn fan, a Vandy fan, a UK fan and pretty much everything else you can be called.
And you can't say anything "good" about the school you cover without being called a homer.
Maybe, just maybe, the fact is sometimes we just think good things are good and bad things are bad.
Honestly, there just isn't much to complain about Butch Jones' start at Tennessee. It hasn't gone to a bowl the past two years but currently has the top 2014 class and fourth-ranked 2015 class. Thats crazy good by any definition.
Now we are on the same page.
No but seriously, as long as Franklin is at Vandy and Butch is at UT, I don't see the Vols getting the upper hand.
Also, you keep talking about the recruiting rankings, but it is July. I doubt the Vols have a top 5 class in Feb, and they will be at least 3rd/4th in the SEC in recruiting.
We'd love to see 8-4 right noe, lol.
and that is why you are the new old us, and we are the new old you. Congrats, it sucks and it is going to be a long ride.
Like what he says or not Wes calls it like he see's it.
