Virginia tech or South Carolina
Probably South Carolina. VT has potential, but they only recruit regionally and whiff too much on VA talent. With UVA down, they should be cleaning up the state, but aren't with the top guys. Hopefully they can make a run one last time before Beamer retires, but I'm not seeing it right now. They have a lot of issues they need sorted out in terms of depth, especially on the O-Line. They don't seem to be quick fixes either.
Neither for the rest of time, really?
Georgia tech and Colorado both have titles in the last 25 years, you know.
all things equal, i would go with south carolina. however, their road is much tougher, so ill take VT
I would always take the SEC school.
The East is their to win right now. the Fla game being the biggest test in recent years. The problem is that CSS is a great recruiter. But Scar is generally in the bottom of the top 25 in recruiting. So that doesnt bode well for them. They get the randoms like Latt and Clowney. But eh overall talent level just isnt there.
We will see this year if they can up their game. But without Latt i just dont know.
VT has everything they should need to be a contender year in and year out. A talent rich state all to themselves. A crazy fan base that follows them like an SEC team. An SEC like gameday environment. And a legendary coach. But they always find games to lose that they shouldnt. Every year.
VT has been close. And much closer than Scar has. But with the conf ties, Scar wins out they get a trip to the BCS Title ame (at least one more anyway) If VT wins the ACC they go to the Orange bowl...Unless there is no SEC team with one loss or less. (even two losses depending on the year).
So with all that said.....My thoughts are SCar.
If you cant be honest....whats the point of being anything?
South Carolina had 6 players drafted last year. You can't base talent on recruiting rankings.
South Carolina, without a doubt - although I don't particularly think either one is looking at a NC anytime soon.
We're 9-1 the last 2 years without him, which would mean 13-3 with him.
Then show me a team that has won it all and is devoid of a top 10-15 recruiting ranking in the last, oh say, 20 years.
And dont even try the AU remark I know is waiting on the tip of your forked tounge. We had a top 10 class the year before and most if not all of our key players were highly regarded recruits.
Its not all in the rankings. But you can not dissmiss the fact that the talent must be there. bama is a great example of talent wins over fight. ND could fight...but they were outmatched and out talented in every aspect of the game they played with bama.
So what you are saying is that Scar didnt really need Latt..
Settle down Francis......... For every team you can show that has won a national title with top 5 recruiting, I can show you 4 that didn't. South Carolina has had some talented teams the last 4 years. The draft proves it. Not sure why you're hell bent on arguing that.
Not at all. I'm saying that believing there will be a major dropoff or that we can't win enough without him is as poorly a researched opinion as saying Spurrier ran him too much.
Not hell bent.
But you actually cant do what you say. Show me 5 teams in the BCS era that didnt have top 10-15 recruiting classes and won a Title.
Back in the day when it was all a popularity contest you could say that. But you can not say that now. bama is living proof of that. They are constantly top 5 in recruiting and they have 3 out of the last 4 BCS titles..Which proves my point. Recruit outside the top 25 and you dont get to the title.
the draft this year also proved that Western Mich is a hotbed for OLinemen. And that Ej is a better QB than geno and or Barkley.
The draft is interesting as you can have just as many 3* guys as you do 5* guys getting drafted.
However, in the actual games the teams that are heavy in 3* and under guys...Well thats what they call the Macc conf. The teams that have 4* and Up are called the SEC. Pretty simple actually.
VT, its more likely for them that they get another Vick out of the Tidewater area than USCjr being able to keep home a freak QB with so many buzzards hovering over South Carolina. JMO.
I remember the title game with FSU vs VT like it was yesterday. If Vick was leading the kind of VT teams they'd build in the years after his departure we may not have won that day. He was breath taking.
I dissagree that there will not be a significant drop off at RB this year at Scar. I didnt see one RB on Scars team that was Latts equal. Did they get the job done and win some games? Yes. Due to QB play though really. the offense at Scar is not predicated off the run. They truly are a Pass first, second and run thrid team. So no CSS didnt run Latt too much. He is just fragile from the waist down.
Scar, as I sadi, and other said, is in a tough league. Winning them all in the SEC is the hardest thing to do in college football. It is akin to amatues hitting a Randy Johnson fastball...Nearly impossible..Nearly.
And i also did choose Scar to win it all before VT. So I didnt say they werent going to win games. But losing a guy like that hurts. We lost Ronnie and Caddy and saw a huge drop off. And AU is known for great RBs. And even had some very good ones after those two guys...But none that were exactly like them or as talented.
All these teams with "higher recruiting rankings" keep getting beat by South Carolina.
Both are still too regional in their recruiting base. teams now must be able to recruit kids from any corner of the country. Because getting lightning to strike twice in Tidewater. Is just as likely as the Titanic making a second run!
South Carolina rushed 491 times and threw 365 times.
Lattimore had over a yard per carry more than South Carolina's next leading rusher which was Conner Shaw. 100% agree that there will be a drop off when Lattimore isn't running the ball.
Thats funny.....How was that trip to the SEC Championship game? What 50 somethng to 20 something.
Just remember this and it will tell you where Scar is at. AU beat yall in 2011. And that was with No Cam No Fairley and really nothing left off of our Title team.. Interesting fact.
I am embarrassed for you, I really am. Maybe you should try watching South Carolina's games before you try to talk about the team.
Brandon Wilds stepped up and had multiple 100+ yard games as a freshman when Latti went down two years ago. He redshirted last year. We have a top 6 recruit RB in Mike Davis, who was once committed to Florida, that saw significant playing time last season and is a stud.
Uhh, no you're wrong. We are about 50/50 pass run. And that's generous, I'd say we run more.
I'd like to see you get hit the way Latti did in a freak collision and not tear your ligaments.
All we have to do is win the East (we really coulda shoulda last two seasons) and win one game and we're in the NCG.
You are just not very knowledgeable. Sorry to break it to you.

You really think we have to recruit all over the country to be able to be an elite team? If we keep the best talent in-state at home, like Sam Montgomery, Carlos Dunlap, AJ Green, Marcus Lattimore, Jadeveon Clowney, Deandre Hopkins, DJ Swearinger, Jonathan Joseph, Alshon Jeffery, Stephon Gilmore, Everett Golson,Sidney Rice, John Abraham, Gaines Adams, DaQuan Bowers, Brian Dawkins geez man the list goes on. If we get the top players at home and get a few from NC and GA every year like we currently do we'll be fine.
Please stop talking. You have no idea what you're talking about.
Maybe because I pay about as much attention to Scar as you do AU. maybe?
And to continue to act like you have a stable of latts in your camp is the only really funny thing I have heard all day!
And coulda, woulda, shoulda but didnt.
The East has been the Wests biotch for years now.
And youre really going to use the.."You should get hit teh way Latt did" and see what happens line..LOL. College football players all get hit hard. No points for you.
And you are right as i see in an above post that is from another teams fan base that knows exactly what plays you pass and run..While you guess. Yall did run more than pass. Points for you.
The rest of the RBs you list are news to the rest of the world that they are the next Latt.
Ill play your game though. tell me you know these guys. Cameron Artis Payne, Corey grant, Tre Mason. They are better than yours. Period. Mason on that pathetic team that AU had last season ran for 1002 yards. A couple Hundred yard games do not make the RB.
Lattimore is one of the best RBs the country has seen in years....Proven by the fact that he torn another ACL,MCL or whatever and still got drfted. Any other back stays put in college and hopes to not get hurt again. Which again proves my point.
I may not be knowledgeable in your mind...But I speak of truths. Not gamecock crmison kool aide truths.
And you will keep on getting punked with no SEC or National Championships.
Any and all teams know that if you dont recruit nationaly you wont keep up. Ask your coach what he thinks. Just think of how good yall could have been had you won more than you lost in recruiting battles with GA, Clem, VT, Ala, AU, and so on.
Its not that hard to see truth. Unless you are blinded by your own rooting intrests.
Zero SEC championships says Hi...
Cant even beleive that I said Scar would win one before VT. At least VT fans get basic knowledge about recruiting and national bases.
Then why do you try to talk about things you don't know about?
He wasn't just "hit hard" they were both freak accidents. It wasn't a normal tackle.
Where did I say they were the next Latti? Just said production won't drop off as big as everyone thinks.
I won't pretend to know your players. So even though you havn't seen South Carolina's RB's play, AU's are better? ok.
It doesn't make the RB but certainly shows potential/the ability to be productive in a bigger role.
