Golden did pretty well while he was there recruiting.
is there any way I could just get the hot dogs and soda ?
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
The coupon combo is perfect for someone with bulimia......eat the dogs, drink the soda, watch London botch the game and then vomit.
Nashville rules, but all the colleges are urbanized. You wont find any UGA, Ole Miss type campuses in the Nashville area. I dont think Vandy is all that great.
Not many programs are good that don't give full fan support and demand a good product. They kind of do both half way. I can't think of another program that averages 40-45 k fans and has done much? Miami is the only one I can think of but no one else is in their situation in a city like Miami.
JMU is only fun if you're under 21. Otherwise downtown Blacksburg is the place to be.
Eh not lately. Every time I went to Radford, I saw a cop breaking up a party.
Not in distance.
the answer is a devil man that goes by the name Al Groh. yeah, its that simple. also, possibly Ronald Curry
"Just gotta keep balling out"
Man I've read a lot of dumb things on the internet, but these about take the cake.
Grew up 30 minutes from Tech (most of my good friends went there). Went to JMU for undergrad. Now at UVA for law school. Charlottesville is by far the best town, JMU is fun if you like packed apartment parties, slutty girls and cheap beer (I happen to love all three) and the bar scene at Tech isn't bad but they're all packed with a shitload of angry bros and there's absolutely no other attractions in Blacksburg (the same can be said for Harrisonburg). Had the most fun at UVA of all three, to be honest.
UVA administration (above the level of Mike London) is the limiting factor in UVA's success. They're basically a restricter plate, from everything from Casteen's 'jocular' comment to the refusal to add an Athletic Training/Kinesiology major because it's not academic enough. Little things like that matter in the big picture of a program.
Mike London has done a good job of convincing in-state kids it can be a football power, but that's yet to be seen. I think a lot of the in-state kids, especially from the 757 and Richmond, are thinking "Why not just go to the closest major program so my family and my boys can come watch me play?" Don't know why UVA didn't do a better job of selling that before, but Al Groh was recruiting out of NJ and CT for some reason. UVA definitely has the pockets to pay their staff, but I don't think they'll ever be a perennial national title contender and I think most fans are okay with that. I think the program would be happy with competing for an ACC title most years.
Football aside, the idea that Charlottesville is a shit town is absurdly laughable.

To answer the question, I think the heart of the issue stems from decades of the administration of the school actively not caring about athletics (football specifically). Al Groh really set the program back and Mike London hasn't done much to help matters, though it's only been a few seasons with him.
Lol, NoVa, why is everyone hating?
Because Jim harbaugh wasn't UVA's coach

Distance and being more rural than they are used to doesn't stop SoFla kids going to FSU to play. And I'm using DMV as a catch all for the states and district than the DC metro area. VT is also much closer than Auburn, Tuscaloosa or Happy Valley and none of those places are bustling major cities. Beamer and co just dropped the ball locking the place down when the talent was on the rise and under reported. Now they are fighting an uphill battle against better programs from 3 major conferences.
Lolz at comparing VT history to that of an FSU, Bama or Penn State
They didn't drop he ball at all, you just have a very elementary understanding of recruiting imo
VT leads for Hand and overall they do just fine in recruiting for the program that they are, and Beamer has a very good understanding of recruiting the types of kids that will succeed at a school like VT
You will never see VT be a school that takes all the VA kids, its just not feasible or realistic... its nobody on that staffs fault I assure you

Rightttt, but the Morgan Moses, Jameel Sewell, Dominique Terrell, Tyrell Chavis, Malcom Cooks are just great students.
UVA can get any kid in school that VT, GT, Miami and so forth can. They suck because they have a bottom 1/3 coach, and an admin/fanbase that just don't care enough about football.
I don't understand this post at all
And downtown Blacksburg is nothing to brag about, I hated Blacksburg though with all my heart
There isn't much about the place I ever liked, especially in mid-winter
JMU is well known as being the best female scenery as far as VA colleges go, and even if you are over 21
Three pages on Virginia-Virginia Tech ...
JMU has got great women, no doubt. That's why I visited so much. The problem is that the house party scene is fine and all, but when you're 21 everyone is trying to go to bars and JMU had all of its good bars close. So you have all the girls spread out across campus at house parties, whereas all the girls at VT are in a centralized area. Too bad you didn't like downtown Blacksburg because I have a blast everytime. Definitely my favorite place.
Oh I gotcha, but yeah to me college is more about the company I kept
All the bar scenes in college towns are the same to me
But I feel this post, its accurate
I also had fun in Blacksburg, but again it was more cause of the company.... Blacksburg itself just doesn't interest me
JMU easily has the hottest girls...
Very true. And Blacksburg winters are brutal.
im currently attending JMU, but have been to Liberty multiple times for days at a time. LU has the hottest girls in the state
