Props to maninblack and other Texas posters that are sick of this crap:
Some interesting notes from 24/7 states rankings. I think Gerry and company are the best in the business so I will use their rankings.
- Texas only has 2 of the top 15 players in the state and only 3 of the top 20 players in the state.
- Meanwhile, Ohio State was able to pull in 3 of the top 15 players in this state. A school 2000 miles away with no recruiting ties what so ever to the high schools here, that's on current sanctions and will be on probation..... pulled in more prospects in the top 15 than Texas. Let that sink in.
- Texas A&M will sign twice as many prospects (8) in the top 25 than Texas (4).
- Texas will miss out on every 5 star recruit in Texas.
- Texas will sign ZERO of the top 12 defensive recruits in this state.
- Texas will sign only TWO of top 20 defensive recruits in the state of Texas.
- Texas missed on every RB prospect in the state. Keith Ford (ou), Dontre Wilson (tOSU), Kyle Hicks (TCU), James White (a&m).
- Texas missed on the top 4 WR prospects in the state of Texas. Two of them are 5 star recruits.
- Texas only took 1 QB... a project. Texas will not sign any of the top 3 QBs in the state (Thomas, Barrett, Stewart).
- Texas will miss on the best TE prospect to come out of Texas in a while when there is a huge need for a TE. Shocking.
- Texas missed on EVERY DT and DE in state. Every single one. In a year where it was crucial to stock up, we fell right on our face. 2014 is a horrible year for DTs and DE (except Thomas and Garrett and we are most definitely not getting Garrett).
- Texas missed out on the top 2 LB prospects in the state. Davis is as good as Doc Shaw so it's not as bad but we still missed out on Mike Mitchell.
- Texas missed out on the top 3 DBs in the state. Texas also missed out on Cole Luke (OOS), a prospect they recruited very heavily.
- With that said, Texas will sign arguably the best OL class in the country.
MACK BROWN MAKES $5,266,667 per YEAR

Really both the Texas coaches underachieve with great talent and as a result it's starting to affect their recruiting. Mack Brown and Rick Barnes. They used to recruit at an elite level, sucked for the most part with their talent, and now that's scaring some big recruits off.
Yeah, I'm 19.
Mack is to "ten wins" what Rick is to "tournament appearances".
But I'm not focused on basketball. And I don't think Barnes even makes half of what Mack does. But he actually SEEMS like he coaches some of the time. Mack's just a tired old mouthpiece with resentment issues. Unless the unthinkable happens and we win a conference championship or better the next couple of years, Mack will have effectively flushed his "legacy" down the toilet. In some people's eyes he already has.
It seems to me that Texas fans are little too genial.
For example, USC are already whipped into a white-hot jizzer over Lame Kiffin and that's in Southern California.
I gotta believe that Texas cares a hell of lot more about football success than SoCal does.
Perhaps the lack of flagrant outrage has allowed this to set in.
Oh, there's flagrant outrage, its just that its not amongst the people in power.
Mack's made it his primary job (yes, he's put the whole 'coach' thing aside) to befriend the big money donors at Texas.
He's given them access to practices, lockerrooms, etc. and they don't want to see that change with someone new.
DeLoss isn't going to fire Mack because that'd be some type of admission that something he did wasn't the best course of action. See his handling of the LHN and the dumpster fire that has become. Instead of having a huge recruiting tool, its become a negative. Most of the fans can't even see 2/3 games a year now and practically no basketball games. It's a joke.
But I digress... the people that have a say, don't care at this point because they either are friends with the guy and like the country club all-access feel he's created or they just have too much money and are distracted by other things, like 20 year old pieces of trim with Brazillian waxes and a deep throat like a shop vac.
Oh, and one other interesting tidbit. If you criticize Mack Brown objectively, you're not a "friend" of the program anymore. That's how Mack plays it. Middle school popularity bullshit.
What Texas is experiencing now is exactly what FSU experienced in the last years of Bowden. But Texas doesn't owe Mack nearly what FSU owed Bowden. They need to kick his ass to the curb quick.
that's the same way I view it
that's why I'm not a proponent of "lifer" head coaches
it usually ends in a bloody civil war with the worst example obviously being Penn St
Couldn't agree more. Back in what? 2008? Mack hired Will Muschamp as the "Head Coach In Waiting"?
Can't recall exactly when, but it doesn't matter. That move basically put an expiration date on Mack. Things go wrong in the NC against Bama, McCoy gets hurt... the ish hits the fan. Mack didn't retire, Will gets pissed, 2009 implosion happens, Will leaves, Mack stays and tries to rebuild a program even though everyone knows he has one foot out the door, or at least that's the perception after the HCIW nonsense. The rest? History! TADA!
What we are seeing now is what happens when you have an old coach with no real Xs and Os acumen and an unclear future.
Thanks Mack. Thanks DeLoss. Next time I see you, I'll pay y'all double to kick me in the balls, since it's all about money with you two.
Well I'll thank Mack for letting A'shawn Robinson go. After missing on Laremy Tunsil, he was a godsend for our OL recruiting.
Don't call Tom Herman, good luck.
Our quarterback does front flips, suck it.
LOL you guys put A. Robinson on the O-line and he will be playing for Baylor his junior year after leaving to go to juco
dont even mention his name brah
Hah. He thinks he's going to play as a 3-4 DE. "Ain't recruiting fun?"
Honestly, no flame, Mack is extremely arrogant and his method of getting guys extremely early is not helping. He's complacent too but he seems to have turned into an a-hole when he used to be a nice guy.
EDIT: check this stat.. Mack Brown, 2 conference championships in 26 years.. Read that 5 times.

You see that sign that says 'Rib Tips'??
We better not be having this same discussion this time next year
If we get Liner (and we will) I don't see where he fits on the defensive line. Especially if we somehow land Vanderdoes. Bama has proven that we can actually develop our talent though. If the kid will work, he'll be just fine.
Lets not fvcking forget that Cyrus will more than likely be gone after next season for the pro's. The LT position is ripe for the taking.

Do you guys think that highly of Smythe?
Think you guys missed the opportunity to fire his ass this year. Really going to suck going through a coaching change in 2014 when the state is loaded with elite talent. Doesn't help that little brother has grown up the last year and is now the destination for Texas players. A&M couldn't have asked for better situation with joining the SEC, winning in the SEC, a popular new coach that's hip, and a dynamic QB that just won the Heisman.
We're just extremely thin at TE. Nothing but an underclassman that that has shown some flashes and just a bunch of bodies otherwise, but yes a lot of people really like Smythe. Stanford recruited him too and they've been a pretty good judge of TE talent recently.
Agree on all points. I think Texas has a good shot to do pretty good next season and Mack will stay even longer.
Would've been so much better off firing Mack and hiring Patterson. Get a head coach that can handle the defense and actually coach, while taking that away from new conference foe TCU.
Now we'll be stuck with Mack for at least one more year and recruiting will suffer because no one knows when the old man is going to finally hang it up.
I pray for a post signing day retirement.

Sounds a lot like D.C. these days.
Great OP. Texas is too good of a job to settle for this type of performance on the field. Brown has every built in advantage that any coach could have. He offers a great city, great tradition, excellent fan support, great weather, excellent academics and gorgeous co-eds. Texas wasn't winning with top tier talent. Does anyone think they are going to win with second-tier talent? If I was a UT fan, I would be pissed and calling for his head!
Didn't want this thread to get lost with all the NSD excitement. Had to bump it so I can school all y'all who don't know in the Art of Spin by Mack Brown.
Long story short, A'Shawn Robinson flipped to Bama, Andrew Billings chose Baylor, and Texas ended up with NO DT commits in this class, and one or two possible DEs. When asked about what happened, Mack stated that those positions "were not important in this class."
I know there have been people who think Texas is going to throw a couple trillion at Saban, though he's not going to Texas...But, your point about the big donors wanting access would be the sticking point even if he was interested. That was Alabama's problem for a good many years. Too many people felt they had a right to be involved. In another life, where Saban actually takes the Texas job, every single one of those doors will slam in the face of the boosters before he even finds his office. The extent of what he personally allows for boosters is a once in a blue moon practice attendance and a dinner where he and a couple assistants talk to them about the program. Then they're right back out the door.
One concession for the big donors is that Mal Moore still rubs elbows with them. If they like Mack so well, they should make him some sort of administrator and give him that job, and hire a no nonsense coach that doesn't answer to him for anything.
