Same guys that reject religion based on faith, absolutely believe there is other intelligent life in the universe. Why, because they have faith.
Makes sense to me!
University of Alabama: The high mark of college football since 1892
Despite all the solid, sound, fact based arguments that can be provided and the historical validity of mysticism and religion in general being eroded away there will always be those folks that say we just "dont have faith"
Seriously, there are this many people (not just trolls) who don't believe in evolution ... in the year 2013?
TURDS ALL UP IN THIS MUG. /// "2010 Auburn Tigers, my favorite team. Unbeaten in all ways." -- Dan Wetzel, April 4, 2013, 6:29 p.m.
There are a multitude of observed, reproduced physical law facts you ignore to make this blanket statement trying to pair the situation down to the two sides merely clinging to a prediction on future revealed truth. That is not, in any way, the case.
The physical laws of the universe are universal. Fact. Of our tiny, pathetically small sample size 1 of 8 planets supports sapient life. There is no faith, there is deductive logic.

I would gladly answer any question you asked, if you truly wanted to know. This is the standard christian bashing thread, and every answer, belief, or explanation offered from a Christian is ridiculed or dissected and turned around and used against them.
I don't mind making fun of the ignorance in this thread, but no desire to engage in any communication with anyone that will simply use anything I provide to try and make their next argument.
I'm fairly certain that at one point not all too long ago you were on the side of Christianity(I may be wrong), and now you seem to be battling against it, VERY interesting.
Exactly, what they provide is irrefutable truth; however, whenever we try and provide anything it is simply not true and they will deny its validity. I learned that a while back in this place
No it's not, its a discussion of scientifically established truth with Christians popping in wanting a stage for their exponentially unlikely premises that we all understand why you believe in God and the Christian God specifically and although we respect where it comes from we are not going to sit here and listen to it as a valid cosmological argument. Its a wives tale, its a santa clause story. Be good for goodness sake.
There was a time when I thought it was a faith vs faith issue just like Smitty is saying and so I was saying that the faith my family has had is that of Christ. Then I found out its not a faith vs faith issue. Its an extrapolatable evidence based stance vs historically obviously made up mysticism. "God" may very well be real but I can say with certainty that it isnt Christ and I most most most most likely "god" doesn't have any plans for us after death.
Approach it scientifically and it isn't so hard to grasp
To say that climate change doesn't exist really is ridiculous. Now, one can argue how much impact people have on climate change because it's been going on for millions of years..... well before people and the use of hydrocarbons.
It's stunning. The amount of willful ignorance is just mind-blowing. It's one thing to weigh all of the evidence in a given scenario to make an informed decision, and it's quite another to dismiss all the evidence as nonsense while blindly believing whatever you want despite a complete and utter lack of evidence.
Call me crazy, but I shape, mold, and adapt my beliefs based on the evidence available to me. I know, I know, it's a totally unprecedented methodology, but I'm odd like that.
So instead of believing that we come from an evolving species where there is found clues and evidence... You believe there is an all mighty power that creates us from the clouds that knows what we are feeling and thinking at the same time for our whole lifes? That when we die our souls float up to heaven for eternity? I can pretty much say that there's a 95% chance that when we die there is eternal darkness and we are wiped from existence. Do I want that to happen? No, but I also don't have false hope for an afterlife.
Jesus H Christ mang
This is exactly NOT a Christian bashing thread.
99% of Christians acknowledge and accept the science of evolution. The only ignorance that exists ITT are people thinking that born again Christians speak for the whole of Christianity in any way, shape or form.
As Mr. Perfect said... It's 2013. The earth is not flat, nor is it the center of the universe, Adam and Eve is a metaphor, and believing that intelligent life other than our own exists in the universe is not "faith"... It's understanding what a statistical possibility means. It's math. A science.
Then you will go to the Fermi paradox. Etc. You dont understand these issues, if you want to attack this I can roll with it.
Look people, I started this thread with 0.0 intention of it turning into a war room. Thought we would be able to discuss different views and at the same time not attack each other for having a different view. Implying someone is closed minded or ignorant for not seeing your view is an attack. That goes for everyone.

Elaborate on the Adam and Even metaphor part.
I knew it wasn't that long ago. It is crazy how the faith can be broken so easily
People can't have a civil debate about this topic. People are too touchy about Jesus tbh.
Exactly. It means there is a very good chance of life elsewhere. But if you believe there definitely is life elsewhere, you have to exercise faith to reach that conclusion, in the absence of actual proof.
To each his own. Unfortunately for one of us the truth will be revealed when we die. Either I'm right or I'm wrong. Either you're right or you're wrong. Time will tell.
