The incident happened at 4am this morning at his house in Pretoria, South Africa, and the woman may have been killed after a Valentines Day surprise went tragically wrong.

Is it normal to arrest someone for something like this? Doesn't the district attorney have to decide it wasn't an accident and press charges? Maybe not. But this is just another reason why you get an alarm and a dog instead of keep a loaded gun.

-one would think
-agree with alarm and dog but also think there is nothing wrong with having gun. One would think he could have yelled " who the fvck are you? If you don't answer I'll be forced to use my gun"
like my grandpappy always used to tell me...

I had a 60+ year old professor at military school have two guys break into his place when I was there. He had been in the Navy for 30+ years and we were all pretty sure he was ex CIA or something. But anyway, the two african americans that broke in had a hammer and a knife. He dropped both, took both their weapons, tied them up, and called the police. He was pretty much a hero around campus. A small little town like that and it was all over the paper. I had him for history and I'm pretty sure we asked him about it every day. lol
thats awesome that he was able to do that.
what if they had guns?
He'd probably be dead. lol. I don't know, this guy was pretty bad ass. You never would have guessed it though by looking at him.
"Mr. Weedline, please stop talking in my class......it's highly improper."....was his favorite saying.
Wow! Dude probably doesn't have a leg to stand on.
ba dum ching!
Hopefully local politicians will stump for his release.
I'm not sure what South Africa's bail system is like, but often a suspect will be arrested, questioned, and held in custody as part of the initial phase of the investigation, and when they're determined not to be a flight risk and the DA feels that the initial questioning phase is complete, they can be released on bail. In cases like this, where the suspect has resources and the ability to leave, the DA might either press to hold him in custody longer while the investigation progresses, or they might end up having to settle for a huge bail amount (multiple millions, based on his income).
Again, it all depends on South Africa's laws, and I'm not familiar with those, but this is a rough sketch of how the US works.

He should be in jail no matter what for being a dumb ass.

When asked about why he shot his girlfriend, Pistorius responded, "I'm stumped."
He murdered her. Neighbors heard arguing before the shooting, and the police had been called there a few times for domestic violence. The story about him thinking she was an intruder is bullshit. What a shame, she was fine.
South Africa sound like a really sweet place to call home.
Dude sounds like a real tool.
Word on the street is that the prosecutor really plans to cut him off at the knees.
Especially because he lived in "the safest gated community in South Africa."
