Tom Watson's 'almost' win at the British open in 09 is my tops...at age 59 he would have been the oldest player to win a major by 13 years...insane Just an un watson like choke job on 18. nicklaus at 46 was the masters champ...hale irwin won the us open at 46 as well.
what say you...who 'almost' pulled out a great, memorable win...runner up for me, game 5, 1976 nba finals...phoenix suns

Ohio state almost won back to back national championships in 06-07.
Heartbreakers I tells ya
Bama almost beat Florida for the SEEC in 08'. If we would have, we would have gone on to win the NC that year. That would make us champions in 08', 09', 11',12', and favorites to win it in 13'. That would be the greatest run in college football history by a long shot.
Best t shirt ever.
I'll throw two curveballs out there. They aren't all-timers or anything, but interesting nonetheless.
1. Dara Torres. She was a female swimmer for the US, and after taking an 8 year layoff, won silver in the 50 free and set the American record at age 41. She's the first swimming Olympian over the age of 40 to just make it, and she almost won an event. Pretty crazy.
2. Michael Cavic. Almost beat Michael Phelps in the 100 M fly in 2008 - he lost by .01 seconds. If he wins that race, Phelps doesn't get his 8 gold medals.
cavic, that was insane...
still say watson at 59 would have been the bomb. he had an easy approach shot at 18, that's the sad thing.
George Foreman won the world heavyweight title at 45.Not almost, but still had to mention him.

Yankees losing the 01 WS to Arizona. Would have been a 4peat.
ya, that would have been impressive...yankee like.
here's one 94 orange bowl, after the 93 season...fsu nebraska...fsu scores late to take the lead...there may have been controversy as well...anyways nebraska drives down in fg range...again may have been controversy...dude shanks what would have been winning fg as time expires...would have given nebraska 3 in row from 93-95...i still say psu in 94 should have gotten a split...great team.
No flame, but do you guys ever think of anything but Bama?
If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.
