they wont get a good player out of him but that kid shouldnt be allowed to do that.

$50 bet with Rebels10 - Best of 3 Egg Bowls
**the $50 goes to others schools athletics dept**
He should go to Prep school and enroll at USC in January.
Why would you want to go to USCw with Lame Kiffin as the Head coach? Well unless he is gettin paid by USCw..
He can't if FSU doesn't release him, jesus ABS I really worry about you sometimes
You miss some of the most obvious things in threads all the time
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
what are the exact rules regarding this. ive looked but havent been able to find the exact restrictions or penalties
What bad publicity?
I don't think that is the case... He hasn't enrolled there yet. Could be wrong... but I doubt it.
Golden is better then Jimbo... I feared it was true. He is going to hoist a crystal ball there - fsufsu
UMM.....LA nightlife versus Chubbys and Bullwinkles in Tallahassee?
The front page of warchant and recruiting section of ESPN.com and all 3 articles that might happen over the summer over it
It might get a quick 5 second segment on CFL but overall nobody will care once the season starts
Anybody that thinks this will bring bad publicity is a total idiot and forgets how quickly things come and go in todays age
This will get really intresting over the summer...
What are they going to say?
If you sign with FSU they will hold you to your contract, but if you sign with us you can change your mind?
Lulz GTFO of here.
This was from a warchant poster, so don't know how accurate it is, but the gist of it is he will have to wait a year or two to play at USC without a release, and he is unlikely to get a release through the NCAA appeals process by saying, "my mommy made me sign it"
"If we do not give Thomas a release, and he doesn't get help from the NCAA in an ...appeals process, he loses TWO YEARS of eligibility and has to SIT two years no matter what. That is, without the release, Matthew Thomas can not go to any school who participates in the National Letter of Intent program (NLOI) without sitting 2 years and his eligibility clock starts ticking right away.
SO, that means:
He can still go JUCO, play football, get aid, etc, because JUCO schools are not part of the NLOI program. But he will have 2 years until he can play at a FBS school.
He can go Prep, play football, get aid, etc, but he still has to sit two years and Prep is usually only 1 year. While Prep school does not typically start your eligibility clock ticking because it is essentially a 5th year of HS, in this case Thomas loses the 2 years of eligibility no matter what (unless we give him the release).
He can sit at home, but he is sitting for 2 years and still loses 2 years of eligibility.
He can pay his own way at USC, UGA, etc, but he has to sit 2 years and still loses 2 years of eligibility.
Basically, without us giving him a release or the NCAA giving him a release (and they obviously would not in this case), he doesn't really have any option other then going the JUCO route or a DII or DIII school who does not participate in the NLOI program (but a lot of those schools do participate it seems, so even in that case he would be restricted).
Even if we grant him the release, without an additional waiver from the NCAA (that they won't give), he will have to sit 1 year basically as though he were transferring from FSU to wherever. But he can receive aid, and he can take a RS so he does not have to pay his own way and does not lose any eligibility.
It seems Matt Thomas has the following options:
1. Attend FSU as scheduled. Will be on scholarship. If he doesn't like it, he can transfer and sit a year. BUT, he needs a release to transfer and receive aid. So, it doesn't work for him to show up to FSU for one day, then request a transfer, because we still aren't going to grant it and he will be in the same position as if he hadn't showed up at all. If he comes for the year, and Jimbo believes he is giving it an honest shot, is actually participating, trying to make the best of it, I'm sure Jimbo would grant the release next spring if he still wants it. If he comes here and has a bad attitude, Jimbo may still grant the release just to keep him off the team, but he isn't going to do it this summer.
2. We give him the release, he will have to sit a year, but can enroll at his new school and be on scholarship while he takes a RS. Would be able to play starting 2014.
3. We don't grant the release. He can go JUCO and be on scholarship at a JUCO, receive aid, play right away, etc. No requirement to sit a year, but once he enrolls in JUCO he will have to earn his AA before he can transfer to a university. He could possibly take a RS one of his years in JUCO, so he could have 3 years to play 3.
4. We don't grant the release, but he pays his own way to USC or UGA while sitting two years, losing two years of eligibility. The official cost of attendance for a year at USC is $62K. That includes room, board, etc. Tuition alone is $45K. That obviously is not an option. Even with a Pell Grant and student loans, he isn't going to be eligible for anything close to $62K. UGA cost of attendance is $40K, with $28K being tuition for an out-of-state student. A good bit cheaper, but still a crap load of money and more then he is going to be eligible for through federal loans.
Looking at the numbers, without the release, he isn't going to USC or any other out of state school between the cost of attending, sitting 2 years, and losing 2 years of eligibility. He also isn't going to Miami for those same reasons. If we don't give him the release, his only real options are come to FSU and maybe transfer in a year, OR go the JUCO route and need his AA.
No, you don't have to go to JUCO for any determined amount of time.
He could stay there a semester and bounce.
Only reason most guys go to juco is so they can get an AA and qualify. He qualified out of HS.
" All these other schools encouraging FSU behind the scenes to stand tough will turn around and use this against FSU in recruiting. "
Negative recruiting is a part of recruiting and FSU gets negative recruited for all kinds of shit, it hasn't hurt them enough in the past and won't in the future
Some of you really don't understand recruiting at all, FSU's only problem on the trail is Trickett
And if FSU wins another ACC title and has a 10 or 11 win season with another 7-10 sent on to the NFL, kids that want to go to FSU won't give two shits about what happened to Matt Thomas, most won't even know who the fuk Matt Thomas is or was
Shove it Alonzo
His Grandpa wanted him at UF
which is why he wouldn't sign his LOI
(also because they gave Muschamp their word the weekend b4 NSD)
but they eventually let him go to UGA
Then he should go to Juco and enroll at USC in January.
Smart kid who handled it the right way.
Why would he lose two years? What's the difference in transferring now as opposed to a player who does it any other time? Terrible rule if true. I could see why he'd be pissed at not getting a release. Terrible rule
I love how you are in threads like this, and troll the Wiggins announcement... but when I troll Miami you cry every single time
How come you are allowed to laugh at FSU whenever you feel like it but must cry when I make fun of Miami, I don't get that Don
You are a less educated fsufsu " the Miami version ".... without the snitching.... or as far as I know
He loses two semesters, not two years. BUT, he needs to pay his own way for those two semesters.
You're right. They would never say something like that.
FSU is now acting like the proverbial fat bitch trying to play hardball with her soon to be ex-hubby. Get over it, losers....he's just not into you anymore.
