Tried this one tonight, loved it
Sixpoint released the latest beer in their Mad Scientist series Thursday, Ich Bin Kein. By far the most sour beer I've had that's not a gueze or a lambic.
Had the great fortune of stumbling onto Founders CBS on draft last night....holy crap. I have never before
had a beer that has come close to tasting that good.
Got I try SweetWater's new 15th Anniversary Dank Tank this weekend. It was pretty good. First time I got to try their Exodus Porter, too. Also good.
Also happy about the 24+ bottles of Fat Tire I brought back with me.
Fat Tire is my least favorite New Belgium beer and it is still really good. Ranger, their IPA, is what started my IPA love.
In memory of Tusks.
Fat Tire's my favorite with 1554 in tow. Got a sampler with Ranger so I'll be trying that, too.
1554 is solid. I wish it was on tap more places. Great beer to have in the winter.
Ranger is a solid IPA.
Yep. Two better ones are brewed in the same city though imo. Every time I go to Fort Collins I buy over $100 in IPAs.
Yeah Ranger is far from my favorite IPA but it is never a bad option.
It is normally the IPA I recommend to people that haven't had one. It isn't too harsh and still has that hoppy aroma.
Definitely a good starter IPA.
Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm a schizophrenic and so am I.
Have any of y'all who are not from Birmingham or Alabama in general gotten the chance to try anything brewed by either Good People or Avondale? Curious to get an outsider's opinion on them (both are, as you've probably already figured out, in Birmingham, AL).
I've had the Good People IPA (can't remember the name) and the Double IPA (Snake Handler?). Both were very good.
Heard a lot of good things about avondale, but never tried.
Totally unrelated question in regards to my previous one: Anyone in here ever built a kegerator? I'm a big fan of DIY and saving money (at least trying to) and I've been looking at this Sanyo 4912 mini-fridge-to-kegerator retrofit. Can hold 2 corny kegs. Wondering if anyone has done something similar and can comment further on the actual cost of the project.
Having a Nugget Nectar from Troegs Brewery now.
I built a kegerator out of a regular old fridge. I don't have it with me right now or I would take a photo and show you.
It was pretty easy to rig up. It didn't cost me much because I already had the refridgerator.
I'm intrigued by all of these Sanyo 4912M conversions I've seen. The mini-fridge when converted holds 2 corny kegs and a 5lb tank of CO2. Apparently they used to be easy to find used back when all these posts I've seen were made (2009 or earlier) but I haven't seen any used ones and they still retail for ~$300. I'm going to do some measuring and figure out another mini-fridge worth using that can also fit 2 kegs and a dual tap tower. Fridge aside, what all hardware did you use? I keep seeing Perlick as THE brand for faucets.
I think perlick is just the style of faucet. That is what I used though.
This is the faucet that I used.
This is what I used on the front door of the fridge. I have 3 faucets so I had to buy 3 of these.
Ah, nice. Thanks for the info. I might have to shelve the project because it's come to my attention I can't get kegs filled in Alabama OR Mississippi which means Georgia is my best bet... 3 hours away. That's a lot of driving for two 5g kegs.
You can't get kegs in Bama? Why the hell not?
from Free the Hops:
"(3) Beer brewed by the brewpub licensee shall not be possessed, sold or dispensed except on the premises where brewed, and shall not be packaged or contained in other than barrels from which the beer is to be dispensed on the premises for consumption on the premises." §28-4A-3(a-3)"
VegasTide - Welcome to the world of great beer. Stone's Arrogant Bastard was one of the first great beers I ever had. Try as much new stuff as you can.
Sierra Nevada's Ruthless Rye IPA - awesome! Great beer. Someone else mentioned their Celebration a couple of pages back. Also very good, but the Ruthless is outstanding.
I still haven't gotten to try the Racer IPA.
Hopslam is one of the best beers in the world. I missed it this year, but last year I was able to buy an entire case. It was awesome.
Aussie? Which vertical epic incarnation did you get? It should have had a number on it. I had one and it was very good.
I bought a Havierstoun Ola dubh that I will try soon.
Similar law in Mississippi, which means I can't get my kegs filled unless I go all the way to Georgia. PITA.
