I love Stone Smoke Porter.
Dirty bastard has some smokeyness to it and I don't mind. It's just when it's the predominant taste, that makes me want to throw it against a wall or something.
I think the beer I am referencing was some sort of bourbon ale.

Ha, worst beer I've ever had. Char a log and put it in liquid form... That's what it's like to me. And I live about 20 minutes from the brewery, toured there a couple times, and generally really like Stone beers... Just hated that one.
You mean Arogant Bastard ale by stone? I didn't get any smokiness from that, but it's been awhile. If you like that, you should try some of the other CA IPAs. Ballast Point Sculpin IPA is my fall back favorite. Racer IPA is really good too.
There's a new one I had at the local bar here in San Diego called 50/51. Not sure who makes it. It was really good. Love my local bar. They have new beers in each week and the bartender never recommends a bad one. It's called High Dive if any of you guys ever vacation here. It's pretty close to Pacific Beach.
I need to hang in this thread more often. Question for you guys...
For Christmas my wife got me a top of the line home brewing kit from Ballast Point. Any GOOD home brewers here? I'm going to try an IPA and the brewery told me to wait until spring for best results (best season here in San die ago I guess). So... Give me some tips that you've learned over the yrs???
I think he's referring to Founders Dirty Bastard.
Arrogant Bastard is good but it definitely has to breathe for a bit before you drink it.
I had a Moylan's Nor-Cal IPA a few weeks ago and really liked it.

For sure...the Dirty Bastard is the scotch ale and definitely has some smoky flavoring. Delicious.
Worst beer I've ever had (I really hate Miller Lite, but it's not craft) is probably the Blue Moon pumpkin seasonal. I don't like wheat beers, don't like pumpkin beers, so when you combine the two...gross.
Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm a schizophrenic and so am I.
Apparently they have a barrel aged Bastard. I must get my hands on some.
I heard the other day we are about to start getting Founders in Texas. I am so damn excited.
Right now I am on the trail of some Abyss. It is so hard to get down here because we don't get much and it sales out fast. It hasn't been released in Dallas yet so I am hoping I can get my hands on some.
Deschutes I assume?
Love Founders...their Centennial IPA is the boobs.
No it's by Founders. It's a porter I believe. .
Edit: Oops. Looks like its a scotch ale
It is a scotch ale.
Pretty much anything from Founders is exceptional. Their Breakfast Stout is amazing and all of their special releases are really good.
The beer chosen for tonight is Oskar Blues' G'Knight Imperial Red Ale (strange title since it's a DIPA).
I am going to be having a Prairie Artisan Prairie Noir. It is an imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels. Really good beer.
Prairie noir, i like it
I am headed out on my beer journey tomorrow. My wish list of beers to get is...extensive. The wife told be to try to keep it to $75 but no higher than $100.
Haha good luck with that. Last time I went a on a specialized beer trip it was $150 and I left wishing I had bought more.
I am thinking about heading to Dark Lord Day this year. I know some guys that live up in that area that are going and have been before. They say it is quite awesome.
I dropped $60 today, picked up a mix 6 from Anchor (2 each of Anchor Steam, Humming Ale, and Porter), a 4 of Ten Fidy, a 6 of Sucks and a 64oz growler of Sixpoint Gorilla Warfare (coffee porter).
Anchor Steam is the only one of those I've had before so needless to say I'm just giddy to dig into that haul.

Do you all have "total wine" stores near you? Maybe its a regional thing but that place is awesome
You are in for a treat with Sucks. Great stuff. I hear Ten Fidy is great as well.
Just looked that up and it looks awesome. I've yet to try any Three Floyds brews, and will probably have to wait until I'm back in the Midwest to visit family.
I'm bound and determined to go to the GABF this year.
We have one in Dallas. It is pretty solid.
I am planning on going to GABF this year also.
Do you know how to get tickets?
