The furriest collateral damage in our wars on drugs, peace, and liberty (by Greg Karber)
I'm not the biggest fan of police, but I always value human life over a dog's life.
Absolutely. However with three officers on the scene... I really doubt the cops lives were in danger. Could one of them gotten bit? Yes... But killed? Doubtful...
Excessive IMO and a result of their own failure to handle the situation. No lives... animal or human, should have been lost here.

My german shepherd/pitbull mix literally sprints full speed toward people and then slams the breaks, wags his tail, and waits to be pet. I have 3 officers who live in my neighborhood and whenever I see them outside I take my dog inside for this exact reason. Police officers WILL shoot a dog running at them.
I'm not watching the video cause I can't stand to see a dog shot, but this happens all the time. Can't really blame the officers (in general, like I said I'm not watching the video), especially ones who work narcotics and have to deal with aggressive dogs regularly.
RIP Lil Julio
My Pit does the same thing, but she'll jump up and lick, be excited and run around you. That is exactly why I introduced her to all of my neighbors and have to work with her ALL THE TIME! As much as I hate having to train her all the time. I love her to death and Idk what I'd do with if she wasnt here now.
You guys need to read the back story provided by the link in a previous post. Allegedly the dog owner was arrested previously and beaten by 1 of the cops at the scene where the dog was killed. The dog owner currently has a lawsuit against this police department for the beating they gave him while in jail on the previous arrest. All charges from this previous arrest were dropped.
Being alleged that cops killed his dog in revenge for lawsuit he has against their department.

If this is true, I have zero respect for the man and no sympathy his loss of his dog. Basically, he goaded the polices officers into arresting him and put his dog in a situation where he knew dog would come to his defense. I feel sorry for the officers experiencing any guilt for the death of the dog. Hopefully, the city doesn't pay the man a cent and spends a few days in jail. People like this dog owner, epitomize what is wrong in formerly great country.
Huh? I think you and I read two different things here...
I bet he only read "black man" "prior charges" "lawsuit."
I'm with you. I have no idea what his interpretation was.
No, no I wouldn't. It just so happens that there's much fewer white people being morons.
Again......the officers didnt arrest him. So te "it wasn't an arrestable offense" doesn't hold water. He was being detained until the other situation was safe.
The article says he spent the night in jail on "suspicion of obstruction of justice." What a crock of sh*t.
bump for later
You and your holier than thou attitude is sickening. Done thier jobs properly???? WTF? how do you know what thier job entails? Thier safety is first and foremost. They subdue the subject first! Make sure he is not armed then secure the vehicle/dog. Anything else can get them killed. They also have to ensure the crowd stays back while performing the detention. The last thing the should have to worry about is the dog. Until you actually do this kind of work it is easy to critique. It is clear by your tone you hate law enforcement and have had some really bad run ins with them. Look up Lawton Oklahoma Music law bud. the 3rd offense of louod music does get you arrested and serve like 10-30 days in jail. These are municipal laws. Which change from jursdiction to jurisdiction. This asshole wanted to make these cops job hard. Why not be critical of him? he could have just walked away. But no, he had to be the BIG guy. Screw him and anyone like him.
Pigs gonna be pigs.
Good so we agree. Had they made sure the vehicle was secure than the dog would still be alive. They wouldn't have had to worry about the crowd or the dog had they done their jobs properly.
I don't hate law enforcement. I believe I previously recognized that they have a difficult and mostly thankless job. But this doesn't mean they're above reproach.
Had this been his 3rd offense in Lawton Oklahoma you'd have a point there cupcake. It wasn't on either account, so you don't.
No matter how much you'd like this to be about the man standing in front of the police with a cell phone in his hand it's not.
Agree completely with everything you've said. Could this situation been handled better? Obviously, but the man provoked the cops and endangered the cops. I wouldn't want to deal with getting but by a dog for a misunderstanding. If the dog had bit the cop in any way this man would be looking at serious prison time.
Because most cops I've encountered are a bunch of inbred retards. You a cop?
Most of you are just bullies on a power trip. Go f-ck yourself.
Deny it all you want.
This situation was analagous to the old pretext stop doctrine
The cops in this case got their panties in a wad because the dude was video-recording them, and they wanted to mete out a little extra-curricular street justice "trumped up charges" style.
Because of their bad intentions, and their willingness to bend the law in serivce of their outsized egos, the guy's dog ends up riddled with lead
Cops are just HS diplomas w/ a badge hate those POS's
What screams "tough guy" about my post? You are dumb.
I've never been bullied really, but have a high enough IQ to be able to judge the cops I've dealt with. They have the demeanor of a common bully. Most aren't that educated, so what can you expect?
When it comes down to it though, most are about as well prepared and trained as this dude. It's not as easy as shooting a helpless animal when the sheep fight back...
Traffic Stop Goes wrong old man with an assault rifle kills two officers 1999 footage
Deputy Dinkheller was shot and killed after pulling over a man on a rural road about 6 miles north of Dublin, Georgia. During the traffic stop he called in for backup. Before the backup arrived he was shot by the man with a rifle. He was able to return fire, striking the suspect in the stomach. The suspect was found during a search the next morning and taken into custody. The entire incident was videotaped by a camera in Deputy Dinkhellers patrol car. On January 28, 2000, the suspect was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to death two days later. RIP Deputy Dinkheller - Channel 9 News

It's funny how some of y'all sit here and talk shit about cops but what do you do to fix it? Are you becoming a cop? Would you stand in their shoes? Nope... you most likely would not. It was one cop that shot not all of them. There is always going to be a weak link or bad apple. Plain and simple this could have been avoided had the man just turned down the music or left when he placed the dog in the car. Human life over animal's life. As far as the music being loud obstructing the police is justified. If a SWAT team is outside the house and they are blaring music like that it could be hard for them to communicate with the team or suspect. The cops asked him to turn down the music... What's so hard about that? Dude really wanted to jam out while he walked around the scene with his dog and video tape what was going on? That one cop could have handled the situation different but we weren't in his shoes. If I had a gun I wouldn't let a 80-130lb dog get a hold of me either. For those saying that there were three cops and only one dog. If the dog had gotten ahold of a cop you don't think the other cops would shoot it or severely beat the dog till it let go? Cops asked for a simple task and the guy couldn't help them out so why should they help him out? Could have been prevented first and foremost by the citizen END OF STORY.
