Controversial Topic: UGA will be top 5 next year....

  • First of all I think they finish 10-2 and play in the SECCG, get dump trucked but show character and win their bowl game = 11-3....damn good year.

Going forward they have RJr Aaron Murray who looked ok against Florida but next year he will have a very good year. RB and WRs were young and in-out this year. Depth is there too with third year Mason and second year Lemay.

RB will be really good. So Crowell will be elite, Sr Samuel can bang, then Fr Marshall will compliment perfectly.

WR will be way different. Mitchell will star; Brown, King, Bennett, and Conley will be "good"

TE will have Charles as a Sr and RFr Rome who will be outstanding: 6'5 265 and elite athlete

OL will be interesting but they have 5-6 contributors coming back, Dantzler, Andrews, Theus will start and play well, then Xzavier Ward will be ~300 and be playable.

Defense returns both elite NTs and becomes even more well "tooled" to their scheme. Boykin and Tyson leave but they have recruited well and now will finish very well. I think Ray Drew becomes an elite system contributor next year with Jarvis Jones maybe touching 14 sacks.

    Flame on.

  • They will finish top 5?

  • I think they start top five, maybe that's how folks can flame UGA and not me by saying how they will perform after that. If they finish 11-3 and return what they do I'd argue for it.

    fsufsu

  • Not out of the realm of possibility, especially going 11-3 this year, but the way they'll get blown out by the LSU/Bama winner may tell you to hold your horses on top 5 next year or "damn good". I know the SEC schedule next year is hanging in the balance with realignment, but without the new additions, UGA would travel to Tuscaloosa next year, and that trip alone (and AU being better than 2011) will make their conference schedule tougher. The rest of the East only has one direction it can go, and that is up. It is deceiving to look at UGA's 10-2 (7-1) and not notice the lack of Bama, LSU, and Ark on the schedule. I'd give them more due if they were blowing out the East but close wins against Vandy and Florida... I'm not that sold yet.

  • i cant see them starting or finishing top 5 honestly. i can see them starting year in the 9-12 range though, but you never know with sports media

i dont see them beating certain teams next year to finish top 5 but could finish again 9-12 range

  • I don't think they'll have Orson Charles next year. The rest definitely seems plausible. Their backfield should be very good for years to come.

    mpcoan

  • I just don't see who will make similar leaps at key positions in the SECE. Who is their non-conference next year?

John Theus will start at either LT or RT and be good. He is a brick house with great bend and great technique. He'll be 6'6 310 and not an issue. Other starters should be Gates, Lee, Burnette and maybe the 2nd year center or Lee at center Dantzler somewhere.

Their defense will be potentially spectacular. Swann, Smith and Commings. LBs will be very very good with Jones as Butkus finalist. DL will be deeper, better.

    fsufsu

  • I don't think they will end up in the top five next year. They have one of the easier schedules this year and won't next year.

agreed Richt owes the schedule makers a little $$$$. Had they played LSU, BAMA, or Arkansas Richt would probably be looking for a new job.

Georgia is not very good this year so how can they be top 5 next year. What quality win do they have this year no less?

  • If he gets to the SEC title game and they win their bowl game, they will be preseason top 10, they have a chance to be pretty good next year.

It's amazing what an easy schedule will do for you.

UGA has the easiest schedule that any SEC East division team has faced since the divisional split in 92 and there's really no debating it.

Never before has a division champion not played one of the SEC's top 3 teams prior to Atlanta.

  • I am very interested to see their schedule next year...For that matter, I'm interested to every SEC team's schedule. I assume the permanent cross-divisional rivalries will look a little different for some teams. Also, I'm thinking UGA plays Clemson in Atlanta next year, though I could be wrong.

Their schedule will definitely be more difficult next year. Florida should be better. I'm real interested to see how much the East can improve.

Clemson will have some major issues next year as well. I believe they lose 7 of their 9 line starters and havent recruited the lines that well.

    fsufsu

  • Georgia returns 32 of 34 scholarship defenders next year. Orson is iffy on offense. Education is huge for him and his family, and he may not like where he projects this year. Like this year O-line will be biggest concern. Theus will come in and be good, but we need jucos who can make an impact next year.

  • Could Arthur Lynch gain 20lbs and move to OT? Just a thought.

I forgot that Georgia in my mind likely lands Cordarelle Patterson as well. Juco WRs are crazy up and down but that guy looks E-lite. I think UGA lands Clemons too and he will be a raptor in that scheme.

There's been talk but I doubt it will happen. We are trying hard for Juco TE Blake Jackson so if that goes down, then those chances may go up.

One game I think they flip next year is your matchup. No flame, just talking football.

You lose Jeffrey and it will be Lattimore's first game back of note just ten months removed from ACL surgery. UGA will shut you guys down hard IMO. JMO. Just don't see any yards for you guys out there.

UGA clearly has been able to shut Lattimore down the last two years so yeah top 10 for sure.
