Controversial Topic: UGA will be top 5 next year....

  • At least wait until the offseason for Georgia to become good again.

they've won 6 in a row, we may not have to wait too long. They have a chance to win out in the regular season and be 10-2. The schedule is favorable from here on out.

One game I think they flip next year is your matchup. No flame, just talking football.

You lose Jeffrey and it will be Lattimore's first game back of note just ten months removed from ACL surgery. UGA will shut you guys down hard IMO. JMO. Just don't see any yards for you guys out there.

Go watch some Shaq Roland tape. It's also a home game.

Unimpressively and against the easiest schedule since the SEC expanded in 92.

If he gets to the SEC title game and they win their bowl game, they will be preseason top 10, they have a chance to be pretty good next year.

Agree, if they get crushed by Alabama or LSU and lose badly in their bowl game, then no way.

I've seen Shaq Roland and feel like Sanders Commings will be more than capable of shutting him down with Connor Shaw throwing the ball.

Location doesn't change anything when there is a sizeable gap between two rosters most of the time. I realize at this point that you are a major homer and about to get irate so just go ahead and pop your cork and yell at me.

He's not being a major homer...He lives in ATL and sees UGA more than most people. His point was that Alshon's loss (though huge) won't be a deal-breaker for us. We'll lose Ingram and (probably) Gilmore on defense. Give Clowney a spring and fall and the improvement will be amazing. Latt will be back and Shaw will get all the starter reps.

It's a little premature to think UGA will be better than this year when their schedule is much tougher.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. No one knows if Lattimore will return to form post injury, and as sorry as our OL is this year, it looks worse for next year (very little experience coming back). Losing Jeffrey doesn't help, but i think our receiving corp will be fine. Shaw will likely be improved somewhat, but i'm not sure about his ceiling talent-wise.
With all that said, UGA is not a good football team this year. They have benefited from a cake walk schedule, and have not been very impressive.

  • The question mark for Georgia is: why havn't they finished top 5 the last 5 years?
Georgia has outrecruted every SEC team over a 10 year average span.

Outside of bringing up a nickel CB who should probably be playing safety, none of this makes sense.

Malcolm Mitchell's the only worrisome part of that roster in 2012 and that's mostly because we'll be unknown at CB outside of Victor Hampton. I guess you're impressed with single score victories over the shit of the SEC but I'm not. That's why I'm not impressed with our victories over them either. But you don't know very much about our roster if you really believe there's a sizeable gap. They have strengths in some places, we have strengths in others.

TBH, it wouldn't surprise me if we lose to UGA in 2012, 3 in a row is tough to do and history isn't on our side, but you haven't said anything in here yet that leads me to believe you know wtf you're talking about.

  • I'll be happy to take ANY wagers (up to 5k) that UGA will be preseason top 5. Let me know and we will find a holder for the money until the poll comes out. For the record, I will easily take UGA will not be top 5 preseason.

2 run out of eligibility. That doesn't mean all of them will be back. UGA also lost to the only two teams they've played inside the top 70 in total offense. (Uncreative acronym meant to be derogatory to UGA fans)

  • If UGA wins out I think they will be ranked top 10. Not top 5.

The defense should be the best Richt has ever had, which is really saying something considering the defenses Van Gorder had with Thomas Davis, David Pollack, etc. Jarvis Jones(leads SEC in sacks and TFL), Jonathan Jenkins(possible 1st round pick), Bacarri Rambo(2nd in nation in INTs), Kwame Geathers(#1 rated DT in 2014 draft), Abry Jones, and Alec Ogletree give this defense some true star power and will all be very experienced and respected. We return 32 of 34 scholarship players on the defensive side of the ball and Grantham has made great improvement in just a year and a half. Right now UGA is 7th nationally in total defense and 1st in 3rd down defense.

Offense will be really good and experienced at the skill spots. I think we start John Theus, Dallas Lee, David Andrews, Chris Burnette, and Kenarious Gates on the OL next season (going from LT to RT). That would give us 3 guys who have started multiple games this year, a center who's getting some mop up duty this year, and the true freshman Theus. That group would be about as good as this year's OL is imo. A little better in pass pro, a little smaller but quicker in run blocking.

I like the thought of Aaron Murray as a Jr with Crowell and Keith Marshall in the backfield with him. The WRs and TEs will be outstanding. I think Orson comes back next year, as he's only a late 2nd-early 3rd pick. He's only 6'2 240-245 pounds right now. I think his mom is on him pretty hard about graduating as well.

If the schedule doesn't change too much, I could see a 10-2, 11-1 season next year. We are scheduled to play Bama, but we don't play Boise so that offsets itself. The rest of our schedule is basically the same as it was this year. We return more starters than UF or UTk, so even though they will be improved I think we can kind of hold serve there. USCe loses Antonio Allen, Melvin Ingram, Alshon, Travian Robertson, and possibly Devin Taylor and/or Stephon Gilmore. I doubt that Lattimore will be 100% by the 2nd game of the season, so he probably won't go nuts against us like he has for the past two seasons either. Things set up well in 2012, and Richt needs to capitalize because we could lose all 11 defensive starters after next season if a few guys go pro early(that are expected to leave).

Pretty much agree with all of this. I think we could sneak into the Top 5, but that would depend on how other top teams finish this year and if UGA can have a good showing in the SECCG and beat a good, highly ranked team in our bowl game. If so then we can, if not then Top 10 is more realistic.

Right now I don't see anyone leaving early either which leaves us in great position for next year. Agree this will be possibly Richt's best D ever.

One thing about Bama, they lose A LOT this year. I think that game is actually very winnable next year. We should be very good and poised for a great season next year, on paper.

All 32 will be back for sure (somebody not creative enough to come up with a derogatory acronym). Jarvis Jones is the only one that is eligible that would be drafted high enough to leave early and he has had a serious neck injury. Today when asked if he was thinking about whether he would leave for the pros, Jarvis said, "Not at all. I'm gonna be here as long as I can."

There's a good chance Arkansas plays in the Cotton Bowl. Also a decent chance the Big 12 has two BCS teams with Oklahoma and OkSt. If that happens then TAMU/Kansas State probably plays the SEC's representative. UGA could get the Cotton or the Outback against Penn State/Nebraska. I would feel good about playing PSU..not really sure about Nebraska. Would feel OK about playing TAMU again.
