Let's level here. Ely is worthless. Taking him over Coker was one of Saban's few gaffs.
So it's basically a decent 3 star vs this kid. So this kid is the starter in 2014. Not ideal.

Especially with the recent Bateman committ.
However getting a kid on campus is always crucial and somehow they've convinced him to make a unofficial visit

We waited to late to offer Coker he ended up staying true to his commitment . Coker > Ely. I think if we take another Qb it will probably be between Ferguson and this new kid Dobbs that's been in the spotlight lately.

i for one feel that Ely nor Cocker would ever start a down at Alabama. with that said Ely was a very good addition
to the roster as everyone cant be a starter .

I agree. If you get a 4/5 star every year (which I would love to) and you don't get those 3 star type 5 year players as well (either as a 2nd QB or as a 2nd option in a class), you have one that beats the other out, the two that don't want to wait 2 or 3 year transfer and you have no QB, much like Notre Dame is experiencing.
Ely and Morris may never start a big game (or any) at Alabama, but I'm glad we have them.
