Could Devin Gardner be the B1G's best QB in 2013?

  • Also Todd Beckman started the first few games in 2008.

shrug Sometimes the better QB doesn't emerge until they see game action. An example with osu...Bauserman started the first 5 games in 2011.

Also, remember how bad Gardner looked in the spring game? He was inaccurate, rushed some throws, and was way too quick to pull it down and run.

  • Gardner should do well. It's basically Braxton and him for QBs in the conference next year, Martinez will have good stats at the end of the year, but he feasts on crap teams and lays eggs vs any decent defense. Indiana guy may have a bright future, but it's hard to tell.

  • Borges' playcalling was MUCH MUCH better with Devin as QB.

I do agree, he was put in a tough spot with Denard at QB. I am extremely looking forward to see how much Devin improves with this whole offseason to learn the entire offense vs last year and learning WR.

This the upgrade in playcalling also had to do with the fact that UM showed some signs of life of a run game to balance it.. Denard looked solid at RB the last 3 games, which opened up the playbook for DG

Time will tell if UM's OL/run game can do the same thing this year

That is true. The OL was definitely not the best last year for us, so I don't see how it can get much worse. (Hope not)

RB situation is definitely up in the air. Sounds like Fitz Toussaint will be ready, with another upperclassmen Rawls behind him. Then the two highly touted recruits Derrick Green and DeVeon Smith coming in, in the Summer.

Little early, IMO, but if PSU can put a team around him, he will be great.

Best true QB prospect IMO in a few years. Better than the kid from Washington going to USC, IYAM.

Agreed. PSU because of the sanctions is going to have serious trouble recruiting at an elite level. When I first heard the news he's going to PSU I was a bit taken aback.
I know there are alot of posters that think he'll fall into the category of "wasted talent" but like you said, if he gets a solid team around him he could make waves.

Maybe I'm wrong, but weren't UM fans calling Speight the best QB to come out of that area in a long time.. and that included Hachenberg?

This was post I read that I was referring to on UM's board

    lbbrews●
Collegiate is a private school but does not have post grad. Wilton repeated his junior year after breaking his collarbone diving fpor the pylon in the 2nd or 3rd game. He is a legit 6'6 and a good student. This kid is underrated and you guys will see how much so at The Opening this spring and in the Elite 11 camps. Big kid with a strong, underrated arm. Collegiate plays in the same league with Hackenburg and I would rather have Wilton.

Some scout in Virginia said the same thing FWIW.

I'm not saying he is, but I don't think he is a slouch of a QB. He's already been offered and accepted an invite to the Under Armour game.

UM fans didn't say that. I believe it was Scout that said they are hearing some coaches in VA think Speight had the highest ceiling of any QB in VA last year shrug

I completely disagree with them, but that's coming from coaches who played against both of them, not just Michigan fans.

Which do you or anyone find strange that a 3star or NR kid with 1 offer gets invited to the UA AS game?

Also, that wasn't a UM fan - that was some guy who knew Speight and just came to our board to tell us about him. He's a UVA fan.

Maybe he's not fully evaluated yet? shrug I'm not worried about it, especially with Devin getting his Medical RS.

Oh for sure and then you've got Jesus Morris for a couple years.. just find it strange the kid already has an invite to the AS game as a 3star/NR kid with 1 offer

I was just messing around. Hackenberg most likely won't start this year. He definitely is the best QB prospect in the conference, but we'll see how he turns out.
