Could North America ever be Invaded?

  • Outstanding said...

    If so who and how?

The Chineese would be my guess, but would they be alone?

This is obviouly a worst case senario hypothetical event that I've always found interesting.

Why attack North America? Is there anything to gain? If the Middle East dries up which it will at some point, do the Chineese make a first strike on the Russian pipelines or do they join forces and make a move on the largest oil/natural gas deposits remaining here in North America. We have a massive store of fossil fuels in the Canadian oil sands and massive oil shale deposits in the midwest/NW. If I'm not mistaken there is actually more fossil fuels in North America than anywhere, we just can't efficiently and in a cost effective manner refine it. I'm sure there are more educated posters who know more oil shale than I do.

Energy neccesity is the only reason I can think of for a North American Invasion.

The only way I could see it happening is if there was a cyber attack on the missle defense system and power grids. I don't know if this is even possible as I would assume it would all need to happen near the same time and the US has to have counter measures and breaks to prevent a systemic attack.

Maybe EMP's? If you could narrowly focus and aim an emp blast, similar to lacing a target or into a hand held weapon, could you not disable something as large as a city or base, gunship or carier etc leaving our skies and shores far more suseptable to a successful attack? Air superiority and Naval power have historically given militaries the greatest advantages, if they have them and we don't to some extent is the only way I could see a possible invasion even remotely possible.

What would an invading force do when they got here and how would they get in our borders? Obviously our Navy is the most dominant force in the world so I would asume they come in through the vast rural Canadian shoreline/Alaska and sweep west to east to the oil sands and try to choke us from there.

If a unified Chineese and Russian ground force came south from there and attempted to enter our borders with our defense and power systems down or worse used against us with very little fuel could they defeat us through a ground campaign? Our millitary is an awesome fighting force, but the key would be the gun loving American people. I would think it comes down to a numbers game and we would be greatly out numbered. A combined force of the Chineese adn Russian is about 5 million, but have hundreds of millions of millitary aged men and women. Our active and reserve forces are around 3 million and about 140 million millitary aged men and women.

Obviously we are Americans and would fight to the death and I would say every single American defending their home is worth 10 invaders, but could our dependency on technology and fossil fuels be the focul point of the U.S.'s demise?

When it comes to energy are there any real allies when it's running out or is it every man for themselves where allegences are held hostage by our enemies? This is obviously not something that would happen now(or ever), but hypothetically in the future.

I don't think there could be a complete takeover of the US, but rather push our borders back to say the Mason-Dixon Line at the worst. This would allow us access to the closest source of fossil fuels left and the Navy to gaurd from the South.

I don't know why I'm posting this right now(nursing a wicked hangover) and people probably think I'm crazy, but there it is. I haven't seen the new Red Dawn and have no idea what the plot line is, but now I feel compelled to watch it and two of my favorite shows Doomesday Preppers and Man vs Wild. I heard the new Red Dawn was so bad they shot it years ago and just realeased it this year which is why I haven't even considered paying for it, so I probably already know the answer to this, but is it even worth seeing now that I've gone off on this rant? The first Red Dawn was one of my favorite films growing up.

    America.

    Yes.

Not likely though unless we become disarmed. Then it will happen for sure.

  • Never happen, the US is one of the most defensible countries in the world. Two massive oceans and Canada to the North. I highly doubt enemy forces are going to come up through Mexico without us knowing it.

The US is too big and has too many people

Didn't read the novel, but yes, we can be invaded. Anyone can be. I am sure the Romans though they were going to make it forever.

Personally if it did happen, I would be more worried about friendly fire from all the gun carrying rednecks around these parts.

Horrible comparison between Rome and America.

The answer is yes we can, however it would be INCREDIBLY HARD.

We are protected by the largest navy and air superiority in the world AND THE TWO LARGEST OCEANS IN THE WORLD.

It won't happen. Unless Obama kills the military

but do they know we all have those assault rifles? They'd be crazy to invade us. Oh, and if Mexico invaded, I think our lawns would look a billion percent better anyway.

Longer frontier compared to their size and they had to face multiple threats. They also had to face the Huns who were more militarily advanced than they were (Stirrups). Rome also had a lot of other issues like political instability and sectionalism that played into it.

  • This year alone Wisconsin registered 600,000 hunters. Michigan registered 750,000 hunters. Take into account the quarter million in Wyoming and another 250,00 0 in Ohio and what you will find is a Army larger than that of Iran or France and Germany combined. That is just 4 states. Imagine what size of Army you would have with just hunters from the whole country.

Along with that, the other day Florida alone registered the 1 millionth person for Concealed Carry and I am sure not all of those hunt.....

Behind every blade of grass is a gun :)

The problem is MADD is still goona come into play. If those two nations were to try and move on us we would know it pretty much as soon as the decision was made. If were able to hit back 1 CBG could take out both navies easily. 2 and we would bomb the communists back to the Ming dynasty. We haven't played total war since 45 so I would imagine it would get rough on both of them pretty quick. Thats not even talkimg about our citizens rising up and guerilla warfare breaking out.

Yep, if we summoned the 'mothers against drunk driving' no country or joint collection of countries would dare think about crossing those menopausal nightmares.

  • A sudden and rapid reduction in population along with an incredible failure by CIA is the only it could happen but you would have to have a capable and motivated enemy.

The Red Dawn Scenario involves suicide agents planted in a complicit Mexico that come across the border, buy arms and explosives here and then take out strategic targets all over the country. Then, most of our satellites are taken out somehow allowing passenger airliners filled with crack Spetsnaz troops to land in Alaska. They open they North for a full Overlord type invasion starting a ground campaign into Canada and down the West Coast. Ground forces simultaneously storm into Texas, Arizona and New Mexico and continue into the Bread Basket. Cuba also invades Florida somehow. At some point, there is a nuclear exchange, billions die and everything settles down. The War the becomes an occupation and those behind the lines become insurgents. Great story but very, very unlikely to ever happen.

If any of you want to write a great novel about something like this though, I will buy it.smoke

  • Good luck trying to invade North America with no aircraft carriers.

China has 1 in service. The US has 10 in service and 1 in reserve.

  • The US has been invaded twice since the revolutionary war. Once in the war of 1812 and WW2. It could happen again bc the US is the breadbasket of the world and now has more energy than just about anywhere in the world. Also, we have the most fresh water with the great lakes. I don't think anyone could be successful doing it as people have stated above.

Yep. They are also rolling out their first stealth fighters...hey china, Eisenhower called, he wants his toys back.(insert jerkoff motion gif here) People don't understand that if you spend more on "defense" than every other country put together we're obviously gonna be a few generations ahead of even our closest rivals.

    SCirish843

  • In the near term? No this can't happen, missiles are our only real concern and even that is highly unlikely.

However long term it's very plausible, our debt isn't going away and as it grows we won't be able to afford to maintain the technological advantage we have today.

We are already hacking at the military, and will continue to do so since the population will demand military cuts to keep the entitlement gravy train chugging along. Also the Dems will probably run the country for the next few decades and since they don't give a s*** about national security and think entitlements are the most important thing, and because we are broke, look for a steady but sure decline in our military might.

This is how empires die, they rot from within and then are conquered by outsiders.

  • Someone a lot smarter than me, and in the know, commented once that the combined military forces of every force in the world could not beat the combined American Armed forces in an all out war.

    Why?

Because even if you invade from the west, or as someone pointed out via a peninsula...you cannot shut down the American capacity to wage war. We outsource many jobs now because it cheaper. But you better believe those factories would be pumping again if someone waged an all-out global war against the United States.

We also forget America's main reason for maintaining its military superiority for 70+ years. Our air superiority is unmatched. The only way you can take the United States out is if we take ourselves out.

As they say, "United We Stand...Divided We Fall."

Rome crumbled from within and divided before being completely over run. It would take that for the US to be invaded.

But as stands, no. How are you going to hide an invasion force the size of one that would be needed to invade the US. We know when a missile silo in Siberia opens its hatch. A couple million chinamen, I know..not the preferred nomenclature, amassing themselves and their equipment would raise a few eyebrows I assure you. A few nukes would be all that was needed. And I'm almost positive we can shoot down any icbm and no sub would be allowed anywhere near our shores in such a situation.

Taking us down from within is much easier and doable and you aren't left with the devastation. Beating us economically is the way to go.

The only thing that holds this country together is our economy and prosperity. Welcome to multicultural America, nobody actually cares about the country just what they can get from it.

And as divided as we are, if the economy goes so does the country.

I just don't see how economic issues can destroy a country short of some sort of a communist revolution. It seems like more of a talking point than a plausible scenario to me.
