Could North America ever be Invaded?

  • Our land, air, and water based nuclear missiles are second to none!

If someone invades the good ole' USofA, I feel sorry for their homeland!

I just don't see how economic issues can destroy a country short of some sort of a communist revolution. It seems like more of a talking point than a plausible scenario to me.

Well it could happen in a few weeks. Our economy is totally dependent on technology now. Take out our power grid combined with a massive cyber attack and we go feral in a matter of weeks, at least in the urban areas.

What's scarier is that the same thing could be accomplished with a large solar flare. Could never happen? Already has in a South Africa. Took years to recover in the 90s. Imagine now in the US. We are light years from the 90s in technology terms.

Didn't read the novel, but yes, we can be invaded. Anyone can be. I am sure the Romans thought they were going to make it forever.

my thoughts exactly (on the Romans).

i'm not sure if this topic has ever been discussed in America but we may have a southern border issue. blackeye

This year alone Wisconsin registered 600,000 hunters. Michigan registered 750,000 hunters. Take into account the quarter million in Wyoming and another 250,00 0 in Ohio and what you will find is a Army larger than that of Iran or France and Germany combined. That is just 4 states. Imagine what size of Army you would have with just hunters from the whole country.

Along with that, the other day Florida alone registered the 1 millionth person for Concealed Carry and I am sure not all of those hunt.....

Behind every blade of grass is a gun :)

I find it difficult to believe that a handgun or basic rifle is very useful in the whole scheme of things. Between nukes, missiles, bombs, technology, intelligence, etc., a few people running around with small arms isn't useful. It wouldn't be a decisive factor.

Exactly right on the southern border. What is it called when one country exports their poverty problem to another country. Even giving them directions & maps how to illegally get into the US. In the tune of 15 million. Where I come from that is an invasion.

Seemed pretty effective in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Three key differences with the Romans/US:

    1) The Romans had a civil war every 10-15 years. The country was frequently at the whims of military dictators or weak emperors who let military leaders run the country. Not to mention the fact that the empire was split by one emperor and the two halves were often combative with each other.

    2) The Romans were nearly constantly attacked from the north by groups who were just as, if not more so, militarily advanced than they were. These groups raided yearly and in many cases were given annual tributes for hundreds of years.

    3) Also, look at the borders of the two. Which seems easier to defend?

  • No, we have the biggest, most powerful navy in the world.. The most fire power, nukes, man power etc... That would be the key. But it wouldn't happen, we have to many submarines that patrol our coasts and around the world to let ships come up anywhere near our country.

    lol

People get too caught up in their numbers and potential. Like the team that gets 5 stars and a top ten class ever year but still sucks.

  • There's no shot in hell at somebody invading us. Our Navy and Air Force makes that an impossibility. The terrains are another struggle. I'm sure there's some on this board that know the swamps in La better than most, mountains in the Rockies, etc etc etc.

Remember this: We have weapons that aren't even revealed to the rest of the world yet. Rods from God, mach 1 torpedo (still don't believe this one, but could be. Theory is accurate.), drones, with laser destruction, etc etc etc... To invade us, they would have to control the airspace and I don't think that's ever going to be possible unless it was multiple nations such as China and Russia together and even that might not work with our ground to air defense missiles.

The other challenge is the multiple cities with over a mil plus. Makes for stongholds throughout the country that would be VERY hard to overcome. As long as there wasn't a slip in taking the enemy for granted, I find it near to impossible.

I would equate this to the best college team beating the worst NFL team. It would get embarrassing fast. And just remember, how would they protect their people and homefronts? We would be invading them faster than us and cut off resources. Our army would stay here and the snipers, green beret, navy seals, rangers, etc would be in their country just creating absolute chaos. Don't forget, they do this with REGARD to human life and casualties. Can you imagine if they were told it's no holds barred????? loco

If they did that, there would be 1 final action by the gov't... sending nukes up to absolutely destroy the country that is trying to invade us.

Doubt it. We're the only country to use one and actively working through the UN to have them limited to other countries while decreasing the stockpiles of us and russia....how would we look if we turned around and dropped some more? A good ol carpet bombing of Beijing would be similarly effective and tons better for the environment. I know "war is war" but I don't want the chinese paying for that war with radioactive fallout 70 years later like Japan does.

Who cares how it would look.... if someone invaded us, killed thousands of civilians. Do you really think it would matter what the UN says?

I didn't say I gave a shit about the UNs opinion, WE are using the UN to get other countries to either stop pursuing nuclear weapons or to limit their payload. It would be hypocritical and counter productive to turn around and level another country...might as well have Obama do a press conference afterwards and just say "O'Doyle rules"

    haha, nice picture..

I get what your saying, but I think your missing what I am saying.

What country is doing to condem us (other than the normal ones) for eliminating a country that has declared war on us (If Red Dawn style) unprovoked, and started killing civilians?

IMO none.... But I bet no one would fck with us again.

Even under your own scenario my plan is better, nukes are lazy. Kill everybody instantly...boring. If you're trying to scare other countries and show dominance you gotta roll over there and dismantle that country brick by brick then plant a big American flag in Tienaman Square. "If you want to beat a man you attack his weaknesses, if you want to destroy a man you attack his strengths."

I don't think there's more of a attacking someone's strength than basically ruining a whole country for the next 50 years.....
