In a word, no. I respect Nebraska's history and place in college football but they aren't "marketable" enough to control anything in college football. No network is paying specifically to cater to Nebraska's imprint and that's what all this is about. TV and money.

Doesn't change the answer to the question. Nothing is stopping the playoff now. Delay it maybe but once the networks,presidents and "money men" break down exactly how much money the conferences and schools can make with a playoff in conjunction with the bowls, it's on. It will probably expand in the future negotiations, meaning after the first run of 4 is up.

Anything less than a seaded 4 team playoff would be a collosal disappointment at this point. Have 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3. Conference ties/titles should have zero to do with it. Have a committee of some kind pick and rank the four teams and be done with it.
In 5 years we will be going to 8 teams anyway because a playoff will be too. fvcking. awesome.
