Could you imagine if these teams were playing a great defense?

  • Both these teams have mediocre to ok defenses and they are suffocating these "great" offenses. Neither of these teams would score much on great defenses like FSU, ND, Alabama etc.

  • I agree, but I've always said great Ds win over great Os

(I wouldn't put FSU in the great D column though)

I'm truly not trying to start shit, but couldn't it be very similar to playing A&M? At least in Oregons case. Good offenses can beat good D's. Bama should know that. Granted I think Bama beats A&M 8 out of 10 times and honestly I think Oregon beats Stanford 8 out of 10 times. I tnink Oregon would've been a tough matchup for Bama. Tougher then ND imo.

I do think this is partially right due to the running QB, difference I see is that A&M has 2 tackles that might be top 15-20 picks. Will an Oregon OL guy go in the first 2-3 rounds? I dont see Oregon enough to really even know. I also think that A&M has more weapons in the passing game but could be wrong

Haha I see you left off Florida even tho they stomped FSU becase they got worked in their bowl game by a not so "great" offense. I bet before Floridas bowl game you would have had them as one of the top defenses in the country this year. Troll on brother, troll on.

Florida let the entire SEC down. They must remain in timeout until further notice.

    LSU?

LSU let the entire SEC down as well. They're also on timeout. They can't come out and play with the rest of us.

  • FL was ran out of the dam building and should have been worse. LSU at least was more competitive

So two of the top three defenses in the SEC were not as good as everyone said they were. Better hope ND doesn't make it three for three.

This one I can't see If I'm wrong I'll admit but I can't see a Qb who doesn't know how to read a defense exploit NIck Saban when he has 40 days to prepare for a game, although I am a known ND hater...

Good lord. I was joking. Lighten up, Francis.

I think both defense are good but both absolutely wet the beds against inferior teams from inferior conferences. It was embarrassing.

  • Oregon has a good defense. If you watched the way Kansas St steamrolled teams this season at times and then the way Oregon just shut them down, I am not sure how you can say that they don't.

Kansas St just didn't have the athletes on the back end against Oregon. When they kept people in fron of them, they were successful, but not enough speed in the secondary to keep up when Oregon broke anything past 5 yards. Kansas St's defenses didn't play that bad though, IMO.

I do think a defense like Alabama or Notre Dame that are very physical up front would give Oregon a lot of problems, but I would call it a sure win or anything close to that for either. I feel that Oregon is one of the top 2 teams in the country. We will find out the other one on Monday, but I am leaning a certain direction there.

  • A good QB can beat a great defense. I don't think anyone is debating that. BUT that QB has to be VERY precise. If he throws the ball inches off it will not work. And even still that great defense can slow the opposing offense enough that their own offense can score enough to win the game. Look at Alabama versus Texas Tech in the 2006 Cotton Bowl (2005 season). Texas Tech averaged 42 points a game entering the game. Alabama's defense only allowed them to score 10 points and even though Alabama had a poor offense they won the game 13-10.

Give me a great defense over a good offense any day.

Graham Harell is a system Qb not a great QB there's a difference, look at what Cam Newton and Bridgewater did..

Our OLine is young. Kyle Long will be in the draft this year and he'll most likely go in 2nd or 3rd rd. He's a beast. He was a JUCO transfer and only played one year with Oregon and came in and started and was probably our best OLmen. If he had one more year to play at Oregon and gotten a little more exposure there's no doubt in my mind he would go in the 1st rd.

We have two sophmores who will go in the first two rds in a couple years. Tyler Johnstone was first team all Pac and he'll be a 1st rd pick and then Jake Fisher, our right tackle will go most likely in the 2nd rd, maybe first. Our center is sophmore Hronis Grassu and he was first team all Pac and I think he'll be a 2nd rd pick as well.

Carson York is a senior who would've gone probably in the 3rd-4th rd this draft, but he unfortunately injured himself and will most likely fall out of thr draft because of that. Our OLine is young and pretty stout and Mariota was protected well for most of the year.

As for as our passing game it's hard to say because we don't air it out. I think the downfield threat will be an added weapon to our offense next season because Mariota showed that he has beautiful touch and accuracy on the long ball and I think we have the receivers to do serious damage if we go that route.

Josh Huff, Bralon Addison, Deanthony Thomas(when he lines up as WR), Dwayne Stanford are all dangerous threats to stretch the field. It's just a matter of if we will or won't.

Also our TE, Colt Lyerla is imo a top five TE nationally, but he unfortunately didn't get as many touches as he should have. When he did though he proved to have incrrcible hands, off thr charts athletcism, above average speed(for a TE) and he's a physical freak of nature.

He also gets yards after the catch and it was very commen for him to carry a few defenders on his back for five yards. An NFL team will get a true gem in Lyerla. He has 1st-2nd rd talent, but might not get enough exposure to go that high. Just my two cents.
