DIRECTV vs Viacom

  • Getting really, really annoying.

  • Viacom is scum.

How can they ask for that kind of price increase for networks that have declining ratings?

Not to mention that crap they pulled on the children was disgusting. They had commercials showing their children's characters like Sponge Bob and Dora "dying".

I won't watch any of their crap programming anymore. Even though I'm a fan of Comedy Central.

  • So has anyone called DirecTV and complained? Just curious if they are offering any deal. I would call and threaten to cancel to get a deal, but:

    A) DirecTV is my only cable option....I can't even get Charter or Comcast because of the apartment complex's deal with DirecTV

    B) I don't know if they would even let you cancel because of something like dropping channels. I mean technically it isn't what I signed up for.

MTV hasn't played music in decades, VH1 is elevator music, Nickelodeon is only for the junior posters on here and Comedy Central is usually only good for a brief channel-surfing laugh. Other than that, Viacom can via-f-themselves. They are useless anyway.

  • Who cares?

Just call DirectTV and complain about it. I read tons of customers have done this and most are getting at least 30 bucks off their monthly bill for a year. Some even getting free premium channels too.

  • Dang it, we are moving and were hoping to go with Direct TV. We have 3 children 6 and under and the kids channels are a must for us. Any chance they get this resolved in the next 2 weeks? Would we be eligible for a discount if we sign up while this dispute is going on?

DirecTV didn't drop any channels. Viacom wanted more money, and DirecTV said no. Viacom then threatened them with legal action if they didn't shut down their broadcasts of Viacom networks.

It's the same difference to me in the end game. I don't have the channels I signed up for, which is basically what I was saying.

What? No. You aren't currently being charged $100/month for Viacom channels.

  • If I don't know what's going on, is that a bad thing? I just signed up for DirecTV and they're supposed to come and install it on Monday. What's the verdict?

  • I read it was about 60 cents per subscriber extra. I also called them and received the following.

20 bucks off a month for a year
Upgraded HD receiver to HD/DVR receiver for free
    Starz/encore free for 6 months
    NFL sunday ticket for free

They were very giving lol. The only problem is you have to agree to a 1 year commitment if you want the sunday ticket or box upgrade. I have 3 kids under 6 so this really sucks. They love them some toons and directv was more then happy to oblige to my demands. I also found out that if you terminate your contract to goto another sattelite/cable company you pay 20 dollars per month for every month left on your contract. I had four months left so i could have paid 80 dollars to get rid of my contract. Hope this helps

You may be without comedy central and a few other channels for a bit. I would still get it installed. Then call customer service and complain. They will take some amount off your bill.

Dish blows so I would still get it done like above poster said. Im on hold with them right now. Im gonna see what they offer me. I know my contract is up.

I like Dish just as much as Direct, and since I use MLB TV I don't need Direct for the Extra Innings anymore. I'm gonna call tomorrow and see what I can get. If they won't give me Sunday Ticket I will happily go back to Dish. Hell, the wife hates Direct and has been begging me to go back to Dish.

    I just got the following
    $30 off a month for a year
    Sunday Ticket
and an Internet Bundle that will Double my speed and will only cost me $30 per month for a year. So basically Im getting free internet for a year. When the year is up with the internet I can renegotiate a new deal with Century Link. When I first got my Century Link years ago I had to have a phone and never realized I had to pay $90 for phone and internet. Im getting rid of the house phone and saving that $90 per month total.

How's Century Link, as far as Internet? My Internet options are AT&T, Verizon and Century Link. I'm looking at the best value and combination of quality that lets me play XBox live without lag.

its directv that is doin all of this. how come no other cable provider is goin through this? 1 billion dollars is nothing for a company that has over 30 million customers. they could charge 3 dollars extra a month and cover that billion in about 10 months. directv is leading you to believe its viacom but its actually directv screwing over everyone

  • Had Century Link for about a week. Worst I've ever had. It worked less than half of the time, and when it did work it was slow as hell. Customer service isn't any better. Told a supervisor that I wasn't paying a dime because I didn't get what I asked for. Guy said I signed a verbal contract. I asked him to send me the verbal contract so my lawyer could look it over and he just told me he will drop all charges.

    Seriously, dial up is better.
