I wish more coaches would take Hoke's stance on visiting other programs after you're committed. Stinks losing a player and a high caliber one in this instance but I like the message he sends by doing this.

Are u shitting me? So its okay for Hoke to try and poach other teams verbals but it is not okay for his own recruits to talk to other schools? Sounds like a hypocrite to me.

Hoke's stance kind of reminds me of Saban's. He (Saban) went on a 30 minute rant about players honoring their commitments after he lost a kid at the last second a few years ago. However, Saban doesnt hesitate to recruit kids who are commited to other schools. Complete hypocrisy imo

Woah woah woah. That's entirely too far. Until Hoke revokes a scholarship in order to get a higher ranked recruit, forces a medical redshirt or a grayshirt, or actually goes on a 30 minute rant about commitment, it's a bit ridiculous to compare Hoke's stance to Saban.

How is it hypocritical? He's not saying that there's anything inherently wrong in talking to/visiting other schools, he's just saying that if one of his commits visits another school, they're no longer going to be considered a commit.

  • I guess we just view it differently. No biggie. I like Hoke, I just don't agree with this stance.

He has no problem contacting kids that have made a commitment elsewere, but kids that commit to him aren't able to speak to other schools. What's so hypocritical about thatshrug

    1) Hoke doesn't consider kids decommits until they visit another school. This isn't a restriction on talking.

    2) Framing it in the context of what commits are allowed to do isn't accurate - kids are allowed to do whatever they want, but Hoke just won't consider them committed to Michigan anymore if they visit anywhere else. You're acting like Hoke locks down their cellphones or something.

LOL people get so worked up over his policy, but this sums it up.

John Montelus could be a possibility as well, as he is apparently friends with Mo Hurst.

They are friends, but good luck with that. There's only one kid that I'm worried about and it's not an OL.

Not at all. Commitment is a 2 way street. They told other top kids (Pocic, McGovern, Anzalone, O Daniel, Walker) that they were full at their positions.

If the kids aren't sure they want to commit, then don't. It's that simple.

Yeah, if you're a kid and you have a Michigan offer, and your other offers are MAC schools and they say we have a spot open, but can't promise for how long of course you're going to commit. Then the kid blows up, and isn't allowed to visit other schools that he may be interested. Lame policy IMO.

How is it lame to protect yourself against decommits? shrug If the kid is only using Michigan as a placeholder in case he gets better offers, I don't see anything lame about making the kid think hard about actually committing.

The coaches tell kids not to commit unless they are sure. It's not that difficult to comprehend. Don't commit unless you are ready. They told Parrker Westphal that they didn't want him to commit yet, because it was too early and would avoid a situation like this.

Man... they need to step pressuring these kids. confused

"We didn't talk much football," said Parrker. "We talked about academics and how I'm going to do this season. They told me to have a great season. Coach Mattison was just telling (Howard) to blitz me a lot more this season. I've been saying the same thing (laughter).

"The (Michigan) coaches were really good, nice people. (Mattison) coached for the Ravens, but he is a real humble guy. He is not one of those arrogant coaches."

When the time came to talk recruiting, the conversation was brief and to the point.

"Coach (Jeff Hecklinski) was telling me he doesn't want me to commit now because it's too early," Parrker said. "He just wants me to take my time."
