Deadspin: Manti Te'o's dead girlfriend is a hoax

  • FWIW, Te'o pulled out of the SR bowl about 3 hours ago per the ND 247 site.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

I am a Seinfeld expert. They're referring to this on the board I'm talking about:

"It's an interesting story, but I hope Deadspin is not rushing to judgment here. I work as an Academic Advisor for a University. Over the last few years, I've worked directly with a lot of Polynesian and Pacific Islander students. Its very common for these students to use multiple names, and different spellings of their names from one day to the next. I have yet to figure out the significance of so many confusing names, but its not unusual. Its a pretty common occurrence. They often have various translations for their names and seem to use them based on how they feel at that exact moment.

I think Deadspin probably didn't look hard enough."

My thoughts are, if some people on these forums could've found out her "other" name, surely the guys from Deadspin could, no?

There would still be a record of some young woman being in a serious car accident in a town like Carson, CA on April 28, and many other such details.

ChiTribHamilton: #NotreDame statement says on Dec. 26, coaches informed by Manti Te'o and parents that he was "victim of what appears to be a hoax."

ChiTribHamilton: #NotreDame says it immediately began investigation "to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax."

  • From the ND thread:

Omg!!! What the heck???!!!! Can anyone even think of something worse that can happen?? Maybe God isn't Catholic., I'm starting to literally get angry!! My question is how would Manti think this wouldn't get discovered?? If this is true I will once again believe that ND is the toughest team in the country to be a fan of!!!

    lolWut?

  • From ND:

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.

Umm, so he had a serious relationship with a girl he never met? Something just doesn't add up here, especially taking into account the quotes from Te'o's father regarding her going to Hawai'i to meet Te'o, etc.

  • Wow. ND busted for two hoaxes in one season.

  • Wow what the hell. Notre Dame is full of some wacked out people but i guess we shouldnt be to shocked. i mean with all the catholic priests really loving little boys and the recent rape case in Notre Dame....... i thought this was a christian school but when u look at all the corrupt churches across America it all kinda makes sense.

Agreed. Why does Te'o find out 2 months after her "death" that his gf might be a hoax? How does Te'o never meet his GF? Didn't the deadspin article say that Te'o said the two have met, so he lied about that?

well Teo must be in on it because in his interview for the BCS champ game he still insisted that this girl was the love of his life. So looks like Notre dame and the Teo s are tring to cover their tracks. Thats some screwed up people ....yep
