  • You sir are incorrect in your claims. Have fun coaching the worst team in the big xii.

From the Dallas Morning News today:

Baylor's Art Briles: 'You lose two teams in Texas A&M and Missouri who never won a Big 12 Championship'

    2:26 PM on Tue., Jun. 19, 2012

Texas A&M leaves the Big 12 for the SEC with Missouri in what some would call a breaking of tradition or bailing on a regionally correct conference.

The Aggies and Tigers felt the stability and the fit for their schools in the SEC was more valued than traditions they held in the Big 12.

Last week Big 12 school Baylor held a mini camp for potential recruits in East Texas where head coach Art Briles was asked several questions about 2011, Robert Griffin III and the state of the Big 12.

Tyler Clifton of the Marshall News Messenger asked Briles in his last question of a Q&A, "How do you see the new-look Big 12 turning out in 2012 with two new league members?"

Briles responded by saying he thinks most folks would be surprised by the balance the Big 12 will now possess.

"It's certainly a talented group to be a part of and is the strongest conference in the country," Briles said. "You lose two teams in Texas A&M and Missouri who never won a Big 12 Championship and gain a pair of teams in TCU and West Virginia who have won BCS games in the last two years. It's exciting."

Though A&M and Missouri may not have contributed as much as they would've preferred, they certainly weren't as bad as Briles makes it seem.

A&M did win a Big 12 Championship in 1999 as the Aggies defeated Kansas State in double overtime. The game is arguably the most thrilling Big 12 Championship in the history of the game.

A&M appeared in the championship game in 1998 but got shellacked by Nebraska 54-15. Missouri made the game twice losing both times to Oklahoma in consecutive seasons, 2007 and '08.

  • What he said is accurate. TAMU and Mizzou are negligible losses for the conference and they added two teams that would curb stomp them in modern success and 2012 projected success.

Baylor, yes, will not be very good. Much like TAMU and Mizzou.

We won a big xii championship, one of five teams to do so. Art obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

disagree. briles is a hell of a good recruiter and coach. he's the one who built houston so that sumlin could have the success last year that got him hired. he's an excellent qb recruiter/developer. only coach to offer rg3 as a qb, keenum was a 2* w/ no other offers, and kolb was a 3* whose only other offer was okst. will they be as good as they were last year? nope. but w/ the vacuum left by the absence of leach at tech, and aggy leaving, i think baylor will consistently be battling for that 3rd spot in the b12 w/ wvu, okst and ksu. much better than aggy ever did.

It infuriates you because everything he said was sound and logically observable. Briles handed Sumlin a Cadillac and Sumlin just maintained it. Briles is a stud and Baylor now has extra ammo in recruiting.

You guys are hoping to compete with Arky and Auburn for 3rd in the SECW and will finish behind one of those two 9 of 10 seasons.

he misspoke. you, of all people, should be giving a bit of a wide berth when someone misspeaks.

as to baylor being better than aggy in the b12, the bar isn't exactly set very high:

    3-5 vs colorado
    3-5 vs mizzou
    6-10 vs texas tech
    5-11 vs oklahoma
    5-11 vs texas
    2-9 in bowl games
    1 bcs bowl - loss
    1 conference championship - 1998
    2 division championships - 1997, 1998
1 three way tie for b12s, no conf champ appearance
finished 3rd in big 12 south 5 times
finished 4th in big 12 south 2 times
finished 5th in big 12 south 3 times
finished 6th in big 12 south 1 time
    one 10 win season

1 minor correction--the 1999 Sugar Bowl in which A&M lost to Ohio State was a BCS bowl, not a Bowl Alliance bowl.
