Sorry dude, but by 2050 more than half of the population in the US will be minorities.

Soccer will indeed be the most popular sport here. It's only a matter of time.

Soccer is #1 in almost every Latin and South American country except some of the CA and Carribean islands and in those it's #2. The Asian population will grow as well and they love soccer and baseball, too.

The biggest drive, though, will be the exposure. You will have entire generations of Americans who will grow up with a domestic league and dozens of channels showing soccer year around (not possible even twenty years ago).

That exposure with the changing demographics and flattening of the world all makes soccer poised to be #1.

The thing about the US though is its so huge and there is so much disposable income that we can have multiple professional leagues of multiple sports and they can all be viable.

I'm sure people used to the same thing about football or basketball with baseball.

    Kings never last forever.

It's ok, like I said earlier, I have played and love both football and soccer, so I could care less.

  • I'm Jamaican so "soccer" is one of my favorite sports... I got interested in american football in high school. Honestly though there is too much money in other sports for the most athletic athletes to get into soccer. Until you get the MLS being broadcast daily people just won't care. Sports like track and "soccer" are big in places without the resources to do equipment based sports. So easy to train when all you have to do is walk outside with a ball or race your next door neighbor.

I wouldn't say daily, but consistently and in prime time on major networks (not one every few weeks on a Saturday afternoon).

Biggest thing though you mentioned is the ease of availability of soccer. Proper soccer training for youth that have the capability is out of reach because of cost---it's a club sport for rich white kids.

Luckily all the MLS teams are beginning to start youth academies that make available training for free (in exchange for player's rights)or cheap.

With each generation, soccer is slowly and surely growing in a small accelerated rate.

The Reggae Boyz don't have a chance in Kingston or Columbus come September against my Yanks in World Cup Qualifying, TrackLove. Just sayin' biggrin

Such a troll and hater. One of those so called tough guys who doesn't even understand the sport of soccer and thinks that since football has more contact that football being your favorite sport makes you a badass or more manly or something.

You probably would be awful at soccer too since it takes a lot more skill than most sports. You can't just be big or fast and be a big time pro soccer player.

Indeed. That's what I do when I don't want to watch most regular season NFL,NBA,MLB,NHL games; Auburn football; tennis; most golf etc.. Etc.

  • I started to enjoy watching it during the last world cup. I mostly just watch USA games but i enjoy the eurocup as well.

I also like how the USA are underdogs, as well.

Ripping on soccer doesn't make you more of a badass. It reminds me of how you loved Blink 182 back in middle school; then high school came around and you were suddenly way too fucking punk or metal for pussy music like blink 182 so you ripped on them all the time to feel cool. Then a ways into college you realized you were just a shitty teenager and again appreciated how awesome Dude Ranch is so you started to get your bros over to your duplex basement in college to drunkenly jam to Josie and Dammit etc..

Anyways, the soccer bashers just remind me of that shitty teenager phase when we all just tore something apart just to feel like we were better than other people.

EDIT: sorry for the zilly edits.

I actually would probably be awful at soccer... i was a pocket passing qb and pretty good corner... the beauty of football is the play stops... no way i wuld want to run around pointlessly chasing a ball back and forth... whistles don't come often enough IYAM... BTW real life tough guy, internet weenie

No one runs around pointlessly in soccer, you know nothing about the sport its so obvious. That being said, I don't think you should really be talking.

That's why Fox and NBC/Univision ponied up +$1B for just the rights to the World Cup...just to waste money on a sport Americans don't care about.

What? Networks spend huge dollars on plenty of rating failures. NBC cancelled 4 already this year.

So does the Olympics but overall all, on average, Americans as whole don't care about soccer.

    4 what? Sitcoms shows? Cool.

The World Cup gets magnificent ratings. Ratings that any network would kill for even in prime time (which most WC games usually aren't).

If you polled every single American their top three sports, I guarantee soccer would be in the top three with basketball and football.
