Defense: Bama, LSU, UGA, FSU

  • Who do you think will finish with the highest ranked total defense? List your reasons why. I'm going with the homer pick in Bama because they have the best defensive coach in the game. In Saban's (07') first year, he took a not so talented team and still finished in the top 10 total defenses nationally. It's pretty much a given that you'll have to finish top 5-7 to finish ahead of Bama.

  • I'm gonna go with LSU, Georgia, Bama, and then FSU.

LSU because of the guys the have coming back especially those DE's.

  • I'm going against the homer pick and will say LSU. Reason is because they return more proven talent in their starting lineup on that side of the ball.

  • FSU only faces one good offense this year in Clemson, so it will tough for us not to finish number 1

I say FSU because they're loaded at D and they have a pretty weak schedule.

LSU could have a really good argument as well.

Those 2 have the best DL in the nation.

I don't see us having the top D again. It will be good but no where near last years

Depends on your offense. If you can't move the ball then you have no chance. UGA and FSU both have the talent along with LSU and Bama. We lack returning starters and experience that had been starting for three years in a few spots. LSU loses a few studs but they have studs with experience as well. UGA has the opportunity and thinking about it make the most sense because Aaron Murray should be able to move the ball in the East and I think they return basically everything on that side of the ball.

FSU worries me on the offensive side of the ball. You have to be able to pound the ball and move the chains to end up number 1.

What does our offense have to do with our defense. If the defense is in good condition it will not matter how much they are on the field like bamas or lsus defense when the offense was struggling.

If your offense continues to have 3 and outs or quick scores then your D is on the field longer.

Therefore they will be more tired no matter their conditioning

  • Can't go wrong with any of those 4. LSU and FSU have so much talent on the D-line, starts in the trenches.

  • We were a better D statistically than UGA last year.

Edit: our #2 CB last year didn't even play so he's a RS senior. Our now #2 CB was our best cover CB last year. 5 senior or RS senior LBs to play two spots and our senior, 3 year starting SS dropped down to spur/OLB at the 3rd LB/s spot. Senior/2 year starter at FS.

Back end is what's considered our "weakness".

Our offenses moved the ball for the most part. I think we averaged around 30+ a game and averaged 400+ yards a game easy even with our schedule last year. Just saying that the more your defense is on the field that they are going to give up more. Your schedule sucks which will help but moving the ball and eating clock has a LOT to do with your overall defensive rank when all is said and done.

Your defense also would worry me losing Ingram and the other studs that you had in the front seven (Can't remember their names but you had two good one's I think outside Ingram). Clowney will have to really come out for those losses not to hurt something fierce along with the loss of Gilmore in the secondary.

  • Our DL with Mingo, Montgomery, The Freak, Bennie Logan, Ego Ferguson, Jamario Rasco.. Stacked.

Eric Reid, Craig Loston, Tharold Simon, Honey Badger on the back end.

We are truly stacked this year but there's no doubt it's close.

    1. LSU
    2. FSU
    3. Bama (Only reason at 3 is unproven talent.. Subject to move up during the year)
    4. UGA

Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.

Offense has a lot to do with Defense.

    Look at Auburn under Malzhan.

Before, our offense stayed on the field 5-7 minutes a drive. Under Malzhan, it was 2-3 minutes MAX. Our defense went from top ten annually to worst in the SEC. If your offense sucks, like FSU, and doesn't stay on the field, your defense will tire.

I can't believe I am having to explain this to you.

  • UGA doesn't belong on that list.

LSU & Bama are alone at the top...no matter how many 1st rounders they lose.

It's subjective but I would go:

    1. LSU
    2. UGA
    3. Bama
    4. FSU

Very subjective list at this point. UGA is number two because of how many they return and I think Aaron Murray and company will be able to move the ball. Bama at three because of the talent but because of unproven leaders at the Linebacker and Secondary corps. FSU because I don't trust their offense.

The season will tell but I have to see a few things happen or not before I made a final list. All of this could change.

  • Few things

*our schedule is only weak because wvu backed out on us... not that anyone is arguing that... just needed to point that out

*our offense wasnt completely shit last year... we constantly moved the ball just couldnt smash out 3rd and shorts and goalline plays with our shit OL

*fsu's defense will easily be top 5 and not only because we play a shit schedule...

You seem mad but nobody in this whole fvcking thread said that FSU was going to be anything but at worst a top five defense.

    Take it easy Tanto.

  • I know all about how defense and offense work, but our offense struggled last year to, and we still had a top 10 defense. Like I said our our offense did nor really hurt our defense much, and I have seen teams with worst offenses do good in college because of their defense like lsu pretty much the whole tine under les miles.
