We're talking about having a top D though. If your D has to be on the field more than your offense then your chances of fielding a number 1 are slim

Covered Gimore in previous post. Akeem Auguste was starting in the secondary before Gilmore got on campus. Hampton was our best cover CB last as a RS freshman.

Clowney didn't start. Ingram did. Travian Robertson hurts because of leadership more than skill but we were #3 total defense with him. Quarles is better and the #2 DT next to Travian most of last year is now Clowney's backup. Byron Jerideau is slotted to be #2 DT and setting strength records in our S & C. Kind of like a certain Bama NT who's already been annointed as the shit...JUCO transfer, hasn't shown it on the field yet, and strongest on the team.

Actually Jesse Williams started every game last season but thanks for the info. I learned something about your team that I didn't know. Hell we have to get to Atlanta first before I give a damn about what USCe does this year.

NFL scouts agree with you. His stats diminish Kirkpatrick's in 2-3 more games. But you probably think Dre was overrated too.

Those times you may have seen him get burned, he was covering up other people's blown coverages.

I'm sorry but I honestly don't see any misconceptions in this thread other than FSU fans thinking that they are being disrespected by saying that they may not finish #1 in the country in total defense this year. I have seen nobody even mention that they won't be top five in the country.

That's the thing. Jesse Williams has 10 tackles in 13 games and he's automatically the shit.

I dont even think Jerideau will be anything but a marginal player. We were #3 in total D last year with a marginal player at the 2nd DT spot and 7th round pick at the 1st DT spot.

Edit: I don't think we're a top D. We were pretty decent last year but the #3 is overblown because we play in low yardage total conference. I just don't think UGA is that great when we were statistically better.

I dont think we have been disrepected itt and i cant speak for other fsu fans... i just wanted to clear up the conception that our offense cant stay on the field and were only in contention because our schedule is weak

How high our defense finishes is on them and how well they execute... there is no doubt in my mind our offense will handle their end of the bargain

There are a lot of good reasons and reason for optimism for all of the teams mentioned. UGA just has the tendency to give up some yards and some points to teams that they shouldn't. There just seems to be a lack of focus at times. LSU and FSU are just sick loaded with talent on the defensive side of the ball and are both really well coached. Alabama has to fill some key spots with inexperience, with safety being the biggest concern. Barron was just never out of position and was incredible in run support. It wouldn't surprise me to see any of these teams finish at the top. As far as the USCe fan, you have some elite talent at certain spots, but just not enough across the board to be listed with these 4 teams. And depth plays a part as well. Maybe we can revisit this thread throughout the year.

However, our DEs aren't going to put up big numbers. Jesse all thoughout last year was still learning technique. He relied on a lot of strength.

He's good and has a lot of potential but he's not all world or nothing right now.

He is a vital part of our D however
