    However, our DEs aren't going to put up big numbers. Jesse all thoughout last year was still learning technique. He relied on a lot of strength.

    He's good and has a lot of potential but he's not all world or nothing right now.

    He is a vital part of our D however

    That was my comparison without naming names - Williams to Jerideau. Both are JUCOs with team leading strength numbers. Your response implies Williams is proven and Jerideau is not.

    Jerideau clearly isn't proven, but if you can't admit Jesse Williams isn't largely touted by the Alabama fan base as some sort of badass and cornerstone of the defense, you're just being disagreeable for argument's sake...and I'm not even disagreeing that Jesse Williams isn't a freak athlete.

    But based on quantitative comparison, the viewpoint that Jerideau equates to a weaker front 4 because he's played less isn't a factually strong argument. Assuming he is our #2 DT, he's replacing a 6'4"/270 lb guy who's now Clowney's backup at DE as a senior.

    7 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks in 13 games. 2-3 of which he got moved to 2nd string OG for depth.

    Williams was 10 solo, 14 assisted, 4 TFL, 0.5 sacks in 13 games.

  • Obviously FSU. Those are likely the three best defenses in America this year and FSU plays a pathetic schedule. Even the good teams we play have weak offenses: VT, Florida

    Clemson compares really well to Arkansas. But LSU and Bama play others.

    Meh, we had a top D last year and we played WVU and Oregon.. WVU scored like 70 in their bowl game.

    1. That's in 10 games then if 2-3 were for OG

    2. Completely different defenses so stats will differ

    I've already said Williams isn't all world or anything. All we've been saying is that South Carolina lost some key players so they probably won't be in this convo at the end of the year.

    It's ok to be top 10 D instead of 5. That still means you had a really good D....

    I hear ya, but they still put up yards. I know some will flame this comment but I do not expect Wake or USF to cross midfield but about 3 times against us, each.

    Didn't LSU give up over 600 yds of total offense to WVU last year? I know LSU created a ton of turnovers and so WVU had the ball on offense alot. But still, that's a lot to be giving up.

    I'm just saying we were so talented last year that even with a game like that, and a beast Oregon O.. We were still ranked as a top Defense.

    Numbers will be better this year with a weaker OOC schedule.

    FSU is beast, no one is saying they aren't.

In Saban's (07') first year, he took a not so talented team and still finished in the top 10 total defenses nationally. It's pretty much a given that you'll have to finish top 5-7 to finish ahead of Bama.

    I think LSU will have the highest ranked total defense but I think Bama will be a close second.

    Bama's offense will be potent and stay on the field, giving the D time to rest- which, along with the strong cast of returning guys with significant PT and JUCO corners, means we'll be fine.

    If Saban could finish top 10 in total D in '07, he should easily be top 5 this year.

    FSU is beast, no one is saying they aren't.

    No doubt. LSU and FSU are scarey good on defense. I remember LSU giving up everything underneath to WVU. It should make for an interesting watch this year, with these 4 teams. Almost a game within a game.

    Figured Mario Edwards and Co would be factors.

    Kind of hard to beat 2 first round DE's in Mingo/Montgomery.
