Now that they aren't being left at the alter and have time to make a decision I think they have a better chance at making a quality hire.

the reason they are there is because your admin is trying to find a Saban. Dave Hart, Sunseri, Lance Thompson, etc.

I don't care how bad the talent was, you make it work if you are competent at all as a defensive coordinator. Wilcox had less talent than Sunseri had this year, and still managed a top 30 defense.
The 3-4 adjustment was visible and understandable. Our corners not being taught right technique to look for ball in man to man situations is all coaching.

We had the 108th ranked defense in 2010 with Greg Robinson. We had something like 14th last year with almost all the same players with Greg Mattison. If you are good at your job you can make it work.

If Kirby leaves, I think Sunseri might be our DC.
There are growing pains when you implement this defense. I never thought it made sense considering Dooley was on the hot seat. Bama gave up 24 or more points in 6 games in 2007(Saban's first season here). We gave up 38 or more points twice. We actually had some good defensive players on that defense.It is a complicated scheme and takes time to implement.
I do hope other teams stay away from Kirby though. I think he will be one heck of a HC one day and I would love to see him go to a small school to cut his teeth and eventually end up back at Bama as the HC one day.
