Derrick Green in Michigan

  • I wouldn't doubt he does commit today honestly. He's been told no from two programs now that he had at the top of his list and he is probably understanding that if he keeps playing games he's going to be playing at Boston College. He's a good back and I wouldn't mind having him on the team but he's not as good as he thinks he is and I'm not sure he's someone a big time program coach would wait for til signing day.

You think you lead because of some shitty powerpoint presentation? That's the definition of delusion.

Are you really this stupid? Do you think the only recruiting pitch he's had is the power point? He's been on campus for 3 days.

I'm sorry, are you Derrick Green? How do you know for sure what he is or isn't doing?

That's interesting, glad to know that you know what he thought of the powerpoint and visit that makes him not want to commit. I'm guessing that the Heisman Trophy was pretty effective as well.

I did some research the other day, trying to find a running back that compares to Derrick Green physically and had similar tape because it's very rare that you find a RB that is 6' ish, 215-220 lbs and runs a 4.4ish 40.

So as I looked through all the databases on Scout and Rivals (Simply because they go back the farthest) the only running back that matched that was Trent Richardson.

Now I'm not saying Derrick Green is going to be Trent Richardson in college, but their films are very similar, Green's actually being slightly better in a couple aspects. Green, similar to Richardson, is a workout warrior who is built more like a LB than a RB and is extremely fast.

So say all you want "He isn't that good" but he actually is and is a truly rare prospect in terms of athleticism and physical stature.

Just an envious VA tech fan. Green is an Auburn Michigan battle IMO.

I would agree, and a battle that will probably be over shortly just based on the number of commitments both teams have. Gonna need to make a decision soon or might not have a spot.

Nah, I think you misunderstood my post a bit. I didn't say he isn't all that good as you will notice I mentioned that I wouldn't mind him being on OSU at all. What I did say is that I don't believe he is as good as he believes he is. During signing day for this past year, I think it was Bucknuts or maybe some other site on the 24/7 network and they asked him when he wanted to pick a school and his response was on his next birthday which I think was sometime in February of 2013...one to two weeks after national signing day. Typically stupid stunts like that are left for the recruits who are elite/have a huge ego (Pryor, and last year's no.1 recruit that signed with South Carolina whose name currently escapes me) that coaches will actually hold out for. Once again, while I think Green is a good back I'm not sure he is as good as he thinks he is.

So he was gonna commit to who? I'm a little confused. Hadn't followed his recruitment that close. Honestly thought Michigan didn't have chance.

I think so too. He had a few favorites and thought he was going to be able to play the recruiting game all the way until NSD. Things are different this year.

Over the last month or so, maybe just two weeks Clemson was the clear leader with OSU right behind them. Clemson picked up a big time running back and pretty much told Green "sorry you waited too long, the inn's closed". Skip ahead to this past Wednesday and news comes out that Green isn't going to make it to Osu's Friday Night Lights because as Green put it on twitter "the Osu coaching staff has decided to go in a different direction". With Osu's case many are thinking they're just holding a spot for either Vonn Bell or possibly a big-time wide receiver as well as another olinemen.

  • I have a feeling he'll he a Wolverine before the day is over. Great get if true.

I just don't get it tho. He grew up idolizing Eddie and has said he loves tOSU, yet he turns around and plays for UM when tOSU has moved on. Go to MSU or Wisky or something, not tOSU's rival lol

With Um's lack of rb's and the oline they're bringing in, on paper it looks like a good decision if you were a 17-18 yearold.

  • Yeah. I guess these guys have different views cause they don't grow up with the rivalry like we do. I just couldn't see myself goin to UM even if tOSU wasn't interested (unless UM was my only big offer).

  • I live 15 minutes from Hermitage and have watched Green in person quite a few times. He's good but not that good. He isn't the style of runner that he tries to be. He's all about using his speed when he should be all about using his size. He'll be a good get for whoever lands him but if you go in thinking he's the next great back, be prepared to be disappointed. I have never agreed with his rankings on any site. They're all falling in love with his size/athletic gifts combination. If that were the only basis for evaluations then the rankings would look drastically different. Watch him in person and you'll see that his measurables don't equal his play. I'll see him 2-3 more times this year to see the progress he's made. I root for the kid because I've basically seen him grow up as a player but I'm not gonna sugarcoat how I feel about his current level of play. Just my take.
