Haven't read the whole thread, but as a piece of advice, go ahead and start a second character in another region so when the American servers are down you can play your second character. Witch Doctor on the American server, Demon Hunter on the European server. I've enjoyed both of them so far (though my DH is only level 10 or so).
Also (and, again, I know most will already know about this) but go ahead and check "elective mode" under the gameplay options. It lets you set any skill to any of the command keys and also allows you to use more than one primary skill if wanted.

My wife was a huge fan of diablo 1&2. She has a Sony vaio currently. I am thinking about surprising her with this game. I put starcraft 2 of her laptop and it was definitely laggy. I don't know how to change specs or anything, I am a console game player. Do you think it will run well enough to justify its purchase? By the way I am computer illiterate.

I want this but I have been disappointed in PC games lately. SWTOR was meh for me and the last couple PC games i played I wasnt into.
I just cant sit and play with a keyboard anymore. Plus it always heats up and frys my PC after a while if i game on it a lot
