Did Mizzou seriously just chant "SEC SEC SEC"?

Oh Anderson is a hell of a coach without a doubt. When he went on that run with UAB before he went to Mizzou I was hoping that he would have been Bama's next coach. I'm happy with Grant but Anderson is awesome as well. If he can recruit the areas you are talking about Arky will be right back up there and fairly quickly. Like you said, it may take another year or two but he'll have them back in the top 10 soon.

Loosing Sanchez to start the season killed us. Add in that out team is 80% FR ans SO and I think we'll be allright. We just need to start getting to the tourney EVERY year. can't miss it and expect the recruits to be knocking down your door.

Arkansas should be fine. Mike Anderson plays a certain style that wins. He doesn't always need top recruits to win, look at Mizzou this year. The razorbacks have the second best basketball fan support in the SEC, Bud Walton is filled and lous when they win.

I've often wondered why the SEC isn't more dominate in B-ball. The football programs across the board have the best facillities of any conference out there. That shows you that schools are willing to pump money into the athletic dept's. Why aren't we better as a conference?

Because we pump our money into our football programs much more than our basketball programs. Alabama can't sell out Coleman Colesium but have about 24,000 people on a waiting list for football season tickets. I know that Alabama takes football a little more serious than other programs from a numbers standpoint but I think you see where I am getting at. When you can keep on adding to a football stadium that could put that many more asses in the seat every home game without worry, why keep putting more money in your basketball program.

Again, it's not as desparaging at other SEC programs as it is at Bama between the love of football to basketball, but I still think we make so much more money on our football programs than we do our basketball programs that we won't pump the money in our programs like other conferences do theirs. Well outside of Vandy and UK at least.

valid points. Still don't understand it. from a $ point of view it's cheaper to run a top notch Basket ball program than it is Football.

You'd figure one of these programs would say, we have a top football program, why not throw some extra $ to the b-ball program and get them going. Both programs can make a school serious $$$

I agree outside of maybe Bama. I mean when you have 24,000 people on a season ticket waiting list and the rabid fanbase that we have, it's always going to be about football. We will throw basketball a bone here and there but football will always be OUR number 1 priority. Schools that can't sell out their football stadiums at their own home games should listen to you. I do think that AU has put a priority on boostening their basketball facilities and such but they don't sell out home games in football fairly often. I'm not sure about how the rest of the conference teams are looking when it comes to waiting lists on football season tickets compared to basketball though. My points were focused on why Bama hasn't been doing it and I'm sure that other AD's of SEC schools are probably thinking the same thing.

The main difference is the profit margin. Even UK makes more money on football than basketball.

Bama does make money on basketball, but the profit margin for football is much larger and is the reason that is where most of the money goes at just about every school.

I know UK is the opposite. There are people on the Season ticket list for 15+ years. BB gets whatever they want\need. Football gets budgeted in. in 2007 when the football program was doing good, no special attention was given to Football. the started sucking again and the fans stopped coming. This year was the best opportunity they had to beat Ten in my lifetime. It's the one game that UK fans want to win most and they had a real shot at winning it. Gameday the stadium was maybe half full. Yet even during the Gillespie years, Rupp sold out every game. I guess it's guess the mind set of the fan bases.

Not true. If your only counting ticket sales, concessions etc, then yeah football at UK brings in more. But every time Cal gets paid for a commercial or an appearance UK is getting a cut. Also it cost a TON more to opperate football.

In 2010, Kentucky football profitted almost 18 million. The basketball team only had just over 16 million in revenue and only profitted 5.2 million.

Even Alabama's basketball program had 4.3 in profit.

  • I think part of it is an issue of school identity. Indiana for instance is so wrapped up in basketball that they dont want football to overshadow it any form because they feel like it will diminish it. It does not matter to them football pays the bills in the conference. They are content being a basketball school.

  • So they passed the conference's only academic requirement for admittance? Nice.

Still amazes me that South Carolina ever got in.

    Why?

They definitely belong. Look at their record against tOSU. They fit right in with the rest of the conference in their domination of them.

    Good point.

The inability to spell SEC shouldn't prevent any school from joining. As you said, they fit right in.

They should start an academic msg board so you can talk about how smart your grads are and people will actually care. This is a sports board, so making fun of a team that has beat you EVERY time you have EVER played is.....well, just plain pathetic!

but I am sure with your fine education that you already figured that out!

Let me just repeat that. "Your team has never beaten SC". It has to hurt a little every time.

We have pro teams in my state. It's called college football for a reason.

Not to mention Duran Carter was eligible at tOSU. Couldn't get eligible at Bama.

Devidee's a one trick pony. If it is any tougher than counting to 85 (well before Urbs started blurring the number at tOSU), its kind of over his head.

Carter was eligible until grades came out and he got a zero point zero GPA.

Apparently that GPA is good enough to get you into a school like Alabama though.

He did play for a rogue program. No accountability, discipline, or oversight. And now every arrested Floridians first phone call is there.

I wouldn't complain so much if they were just visiting, but these people are here to stay. You were throwing out the fact that Ohio had pro football, what does that have to do withy anything? And you calling USC an awful school just makes you sound bitter and ignorant.
