Do any of your non-student fans dislike the student (section)?

  • We have a thread from non-students (both alumni and never attended) about how much they hate the student section pretty much weekly over on BoL. How we never show up (we do), how they're just as loud as we are (they're not), how we say classless cheers (who doesn't?), etc. They even go so far as to say in both football and basketball we should have tickets taken away from us and given to (presumably) the Tide Pride people. They want to give less to STUDENTS of the UNIVERSITY is basically what they're saying.

Does any other fanbase act this way about their students?

  • Ours is a mixed bag. The way seating works at PSU for the students is first come first served, so the upper portions of the student section rarely fill up. So many of the alumni get upset and want to shrink the student section (not realizing that when alumni don't show up, nobody notices cause they have assigned seats and not first come). It's a love hate thing. I graduated a few years ago and still love the student section for what it is, but many alumni have mixed feelings toward the section.

  • Oh God. tRCMB is a constant war between alumni and students. Things were ALWAYS better when the alumni were students. Students now are just "stuck up spoiled brats who don't make any noise, don't show up, and embarrass the university".

With Our stadium design and size it should be one of the top 2 loudest in the country. It's not even Top 2 loud in the SEC West. Our fans sit on their hands unless a HUGE play happens. If not, it's Vanderbilt loud. Combination of old people and spoiled fans IMO. I don't even enjoy going to the games anymore. You always have some dumbass that's asking you to please sit down so they can see.

In blowouts at the start of the 4th, there is typically one large section of the stadium fairly empty......and it isn't Tide Pride.

That's true as well. And generally the first 10 minutes of most games.

  • Every student should be able to go to the games first over any other group of people. I understand some students don't want to go to the games but it's a university not a pro franchise.

  • all OU fans want to move the student section to the endzone with the visitors and it's a constant issue...bickering all day long to no end

complaints about the crowd and student section every game, every week during every season

  • Most fan bases complain about students not showing up/not caring/not being loud enough. It's not anything new.

Who's more important? TidePrde members or students? If you asked the President of the University he would tell you TidePride members if he was being honest. Donations don't come from students. Most TidePride members have already paid tuition, now they're donating money they don't really have to.

While true students ARE the University. Without TP the University doesn't function as effectively. Without students the University doesn't exist.

Well the primary function of a university is to provide STUDENTS with a learning and social experience to grow. Since the athletic department only contributes a few million dollars to the university's budget why facilitate them? Maybe brining in seniors in high school with high academic marks would further the university's budget with federal grants than trying to squuez upper deck seats for TidePride.

While the stadium is not non stop craziness, its very loud during certain games and certain times. UF in 2010 was NUTS. UF in 06 was the loudest I've ever been to (Sat behind Tebow and his dad in the recruit section, he was loving it). UT in 06 actually shook the stadium when Harper caused the fumble. Rocky Block caused an earthquake in 09. AU in 09 was loud the entire time. And LSU this past year was just insane.

BDS is as loud as anywhere in the nation

There's plenty of universities that supply a great learning experience and social growth without a football program all together. To be honest, non students, non grads and non TidePride members probably generate 3 times more money for the University each year. Sidewalks FTW. It's not really about money to me. It's about having more enthusiastic fans in the seats. I get that students are very important. I'm just saying, stay for the game. Cheer the entire game. They'll be graduated soon and years later they'll wish they did.
