Never. Smoking is banned in Michigan too. Amazing. I get smoking in bars, but I never understood why people would smoke in restaurants. Are there really people out there who needed to smoke after eating a meal? Gross.

YES!! that is one of the key times for any smoker.

  • I smoked on and off in High school, then I started smoking full time when I was getting out of the Army (2006). Found out in September that my girlfriend is pregnant, so I have to quit smoking. I cut back drastically at first. I went from over a pack a day to about 3 cigs a day. After a week, I had none and I have smoked since. New Years was a tough one for me. I was around a bunch of friends who smoke, and drinking. My girlfriend even told me it was ok to smoke for that one night. I managed to hold it together and have been smoke free for 5 months.

  • for all of you hating on the smokers, take it easy. If we have a spot to smoke we will usually go there. This, you can't smoke on the property crap is ridiculous. I worked at a university hospital and they made a no tobacco policy. If you wanted to smoke you had to go off the university property. That's fine, except for the 70 year old patient who can't go to a smoking area because it's now illegal. If she wants to smoke she has to sign out Against Medical Advice and go 1/4 mile down the road to smoke on the side of the road. Then come back to the hospital and hope they readmit her. I understand all of the health reasons for making these rules, but it's getting kind of ridiculous.

Agreed, I always made a conscious effort to keep my smoking away from non-smokers and always smoked in the designated areas wherever I happened to be.

One thing I did hate was the smokers smoking in the designated smoking areas on campus that would throw their butts on the ground when there were 5-6 ashtrays/receptacles. Just lazy. I think a lot of folks on campuses hate the littering more than the actual smoking.

How is not allowing smoking within a quarter-mile of a hospital ridiculous? If anything, I would assume this is the ONE place smoking *should* be banned completely.

Not necessarily true. Smokeless tobacco doesn't have near the systemic affects as cigarettes, such as hypertension and heart disease. Oral cancer is usually detected at a much earlier stage than lung cancer. I'm not trying to downplay oral cancer because it can be an absolutely terrible, destructive desease. Unfortunately I've seen it first hand in a few patients. Using smokeless tobacco has proven to be an affective way of quitting smoking and tobacco altogether.

    Ironic post is ironic.

I started at age 12 and smoked until 25. I am 26 now and haven't had a cig in 13 months. Cold turkey. Herb might have helped a little biggrin

  • Less than five times in my life, all when drunk at the strip club, all cigars.

Edit: So I guess "no" would've sufficed since this is about cigs.
