Does Clemson cheat?

  • There probably are a few programs cheating, at least to some degree. Some schools really don't have much to lose and the NCAA won't do much to punish them if caught. If a mediocre team cheats and becomes better then punishing them will just return them to being mediocre. Nothing to lose other than disgracing the program for a few years and maybe losing one season. But on the other hand the team has much to gain by cheating.

    I am not naive enough to think that they do everything by the book..... In saying that, they do have a beautiful campus, bad A stadium, hot women, dedicated fanbase, great uni's, one of the better game day experiences, etc...

    Why else you think they landed (4) 5* for the 2010 class? I was with Rivals on that cycle so it was 4 over there (Mike Bellamy(4* on 247), Sammy Watkins, Tony Steward and Stephone Anthony).

    Teams that win a title still don't land (4) 5* the next recruiting cycle.

    Yea, they are cheating. I'm 100000000% certain of it. Only a matter of time tho. stir

  • I don't know if Clemson cheats at recruiting. But, I do think their HC is a great salesman who is gifted at selling kids, and their families, a load of goods. It doesn't really matter though b/c they get outcoached on a regular basis and don't usually beat teams of any note.

  • 1) Pretry sure Clemson didn't pay Watkins, but his recruiitment was the product of a relationship that was heavily cultivated at a young age. The kid just lived Clemson. Oh well

    2) Im also pretty sure Clemson cheats, but if any school SHOULD cheat, it's them. No titles to vacate, a dingus of a head coach that nobody would miss. OTOH...it's borderline believable that good players would truly want to go there. Crazy football fanbase, small town atmosphere, marginal success, decent staff...

    Schools like Clemson should absolutely cheat. Nothing to lose, but nabbing a Cam Newton type player in a weak ACC??? Boom. BCS game.

  • Yes. Clemson cheats.

    Yes. I know they do because I work with a former Mizzou NG who was recruited by Clemson.

    I can tell you exactly how they cheat or at least some of the ways they cheat.

    I was told that on recruiting trips when players try the Clemson helmets on there is money taped to the inside of the helmet. I was told this by a person who experienced it first hand.

    That is USC territory...and well we all know USC cheats (as per the NCAA) in recruiting and well even if they didn't cheat they should still be able to get 5*'s like clockwork- they are fvcking USC- not Clemson.

    USC is a blue blood program. Clemson is not even a has-been like Minnesota, a Johnny Come Lately like Miami or FSU - they are a never fvcking was.

    Please show a USC recruiting violation. Anything. Mr. High and mighty.

    Also, I know the Watkins family. Sammy wasn't bought.

  • The answer to the OP's question is a resounding "YES."

    Many teams do it to lesser degrees. I wish it didn't happen because it hurts the image of the game we know and love. When I hear of players taking these things, I do not wish them well in their careers (FWIW).

    It's a hard topic to grasp: is it the school's fault for trying to remain competitive to others who are offering/exploiting some recruits from bad situations, or it a matter of the recruits taking advantage of a market that is ripe for their pockets?

    I wish the recruits did not stoop to this level and I wish the schools would never offer, but it is what it is. Integrity means more to some than it does to others, it seems.

    Everyone cheats or bends the rules in one way or another. Are some worse than others? Yes but at the end of the day, CFB and CBB is big business.
