Manti captained much better than Johnny Football when Johnny Football led his team to a victory in Tuscaloosa? ND didn't play a team all year nearly as tough as Alabama, so you fail. You also failed to pay attention to the facts that I mentioned. How many top 25 offenses did Manti face?

You don't get it...it doesn't matter. Top 25 offenses is a worthless stat. Comparing teams that play completely different schedules proves nothing.

Comparing how they perform versus their opponent's average output is what matters.

So against what LSU, Bama, and UF averaged giving up, you were only 8.2 points better.

Against what Stanford, Oklahoma, and Michigan were averaging scoring, ND was 21.6 points better.

One win doesn't make a heisman. People have been winning in TTown for a century. BFD it's a 12 game season, and in the other big games he played he didn't do anything.

No, you don't get it. You wanta double standard. Johnny is graded on he defenses he plays against, so why wouldn't Te'o b graded on the offenses he faces?

Johnny football should win the heisman. I can think of three lb that have better numbers and better fb players. Teo is overated not saying he isnt good just overated.

Doug Flutie's win over Miami is the reason he won the Heisman

Johnny Football has a FF. But seriously bro, he is second in the nation in passes defended, that has to count for something, right?

Seriously? Get your stats correct...he's tied for 63rd in the country in passes defended.

And for all those touting ND's schedule...it wasn't all that. It ranks behind A&M's. Pitt? Come on! They got pounded by a FCS opponent! End of that discussion.

Everyone here knows that Te'o is very good football player...but he is not the best in college football. The fact that people have to bring up the very definition of "What the Heisman is Supposed to Represent" kinda proves that your case for "Te'o for Heisman", statistically, and in actuality, is weak.

But don't despair. There is a silver lining. We all know you F'n Irish fans are all hyped to have your day in the sun, but after Manziel wins the Heisman, and 'Bama the National Championship, you can look back on this year and say that, "yes, Notre Dame was relevant again".

  • Let me preface my comment with the fact that I really have no argument if Johnny Football wins the Heisman. Dude put together a great season and is deserving of the award if he wins it.

With that said, the Heisman as a whole is a joke, not just this year. First off, defensive players really have no shot at it unless they play both ways or return punts/ kick offs to the crib. I mean let's be honest, if Suh didn't win it, who here thinks ANY defensive player that doesn't do what I stated above has a chance?

The other reason I feel the Heisman has become a joke is because I feel that the majority of the voters can't make an educated vote because they don't follow college football that deeply. I would bet the staff here at 247 or even some of the members here could make a more educated decision on the Heisman than some of these sports journalists. FFS, they offered Mike Greenberg a vote!!! He doesn't really follow college football in depth.

But the personal attacks on a college player because you don't agree with him being a finalist for an award is pretty pathetic. The voters put them there, attack them if you don't agree with it. I am sorry your life didn't go as planned and you are so upset about it that you would resort to those types of tactics...that goes for both the anti-Manziel and anti-Te'o personal comments.

Do you think that Gino Toretta, Ty Detmer, Rashaan Salaam, Jason White, Troy Smith and on and on were the best players in CF when they won the Heisman? The NFL would say otherwise. Not to say that Manti is not the best player....just sayin.

    Irishdrunk78

  • He won't win it. Johnny Football is going to win it by a pretty large margin.

The NFL has no say as to who should win the Heisman. That is why they call it the best player in College Football.

  • About not game planning against Te'o...

Actually, after Oklahoma every team's exclusive plan was to avoid the middle of the field or running between the tackles because Te'o is there. Obviously you don't watch the games, but that is exactly what happened.

How about over 300 yards against LSU. How about even with three picks he had us in position to win that game. Our FG kicker lost us that game, not Johnny. Against Florida Johnny had a good game, 0 turnovers, and 1 TD, and once again our FG kicker censored us.

Well of course the NFL has no say in the Heisman...my point is how often is the Heisman winner truly the best player in college?? The past couple of years I think they got it right, but in years past is hasn't been the case. Just because a player might have the most eye-popping stats does not make him the best player.

    Irishdrunk78

You can look it up. Those are the facts. His completion percentage went down by 6.4 %, his passing yards down 18 %, his TD passes down 66 %, interceptions up 40 %, yards per carry down 46 %, rushing TD's down 160 %.

    Te'o had his tackles up 28 %, sacks up 62 %, interceptions up 40 %, tackles for loss up 64 %.

Also, ND held those teams to 21 points below their season average, while Agy put up only 8.1 points more than what those teams were averaging giving up.

Manti captained a much better defense than Johnny did an offense. Facts are facts. Johnny ran up his numbers against the nobodies on his schedule.

oh his sacks went up 62%? I guess that means he actually got a sack hahaha Oh his tackles for loss went up 64%? I guess that means he may have totalled like 2 tackles for loss? Give me a break. Don't even talk about the interceptions. A blind man could catch a pass thrown at his chest or tipped right to his face.

He's a very good player and will be up there in the draft, but I'd be somewhat surprised if he went in the top 5. Possible, but I think unlikely, partially due to the position he plays. I think Aaron Curry was the last 4-3 LB taken in the top 5 and he didn't exactly pan out as expected.

  • Yes MLB's aren't nearly as valuable as pass rushing whores like Von Miller and Jarvis Jones.

Heck kueckly didn't even go top 5 and he was a tackling machine.
